Chapter 5 - The Anatomy of a Betrayal"Excuse me?" Julian hissed, stepping toward Grace with a menacing glare. "You miserable little nobody—you haven't even opened the portfolio! You don't know the first thing about maritime logistics!"

"I don't need to know logistics to smell a rat," Grace replied, her voice cutting through the tense air like a scalpel. She pointed a finger directly at the second page of the contract resting on the desk. "Paragraph fourteen, subsection C. The shell company holding the title to North Wharf isn't an independent union affiliate. It’s registered under a Delaware LLC called 'Apex Maritime Group'."

Julian’s face drained of color. His jaw dropped slightly.

Grace stood up, walking slowly around the desk until she was standing face-to-face with Dominic’s nephew.

"And if you trace Apex Maritime Group back through three layers of offshore tax havens, Julian," she whispered coldly, "you find that the primary beneficiary is a private Swiss bank account registered under your wife’s maiden name."

Julian stumbled back a step, looking as though he had been struck by lightning. He stammered, looking frantically at his uncle.

"Uncle Dominic—she’s lying! This is a stunt! Some uneducated diner rat trying to play corporate detective—!"

"Shut up, Julian," Dominic said.

It wasn't a shout. It was a low, velvet whisper that commanded absolute, terrified obedience.

Dominic slowly rose from his chair. The temperature in the penthouse seemed to drop ten degrees. He walked around the desk, stopping right in front of his nephew.

"You tried to steal four point two million dollars from my portfolio," Dominic said softly, his eyes dead and unblinking. "You tried to rob your own blood."

"Uncle... please! I-I can explain—"

Dominic raised one hand. Before Julian could blink, Victor and the two guards moved in with terrifying speed, pinning Julian’s arms behind his back and slamming him against the glass wall of the penthouse.

"Victor," Dominic said without looking back. "Take him down to the basement vault. Freeze all his accounts, strip his titles, and make sure he never sets foot in Bellhaven again. If he so much as breathes near my shipping lines, feed him to the river."

"No! Please! Uncle—NOOO!" Julian screamed as he was dragged kicking and screaming toward the private elevator.

The heavy doors chimed shut, sealing his fate.

Silence descended upon the penthouse once more.

Dominic stood alone for a long moment, staring at the spot where his nephew had just been erased from his empire. Then, slowly, he turned his head and looked at Grace.

"Four point two million saved in thirty seconds," Dominic murmured, a dark, dangerous fascination gleaming in his eyes. "You didn't just audit the contract, Grace. You dismantled my bloodline's biggest liability."

"I just read the paper," Grace said evenly, her heart racing beneath her blazer. "You taught me to look closer."

Dominic stepped closer to her, so close she could smell his expensive cologne mixed with the faint scent of Cuban tobacco.

"You are far more dangerous than I ever imagined, Grace Mercer," Dominic whispered. "And now... you are officially indispensable."
