Chapter 6 - THE VANGUARD'S LAUNCH

Dawn broke over the Swiss Alps, painting the jagged peaks in shades of bruised purple and blinding gold.
Perched on a cliffside overlooking Lake Geneva was the Vanguard Syndicate’s primary European stronghold—a brutalist concrete fortress wrapped in reinforced glass and protected by private mercenaries.
Inside the subterranean control room, Arthur Vance—the ousted general manager and elder brother to Marcus and Victor—paved the floor with nervous energy. He held a secure satellite phone to his ear, waiting for confirmation of Julian’s complete and total surrender.
"He has to sign, Arthur," a voice crackled through the encrypted comms. "Rossi’s empire is too big to seize through courts. Hostage leverage is the only way."
Suddenly, the massive steel blast doors at the end of the bunker corridor didn't just open—they were blown off their hydraulic hinges with a deafening blast of C4 explosives.
Smoke billowed into the control room, stinging the eyes of the dozen armed mercenaries stationed inside.
Through the haze walked Julian Rossi.
He wasn't wearing a tuxedo anymore. He wore a dark tactical vest over a black turtleneck, heavy combat boots, and carried a customized assault rifle resting casually against his shoulder. Flanking him were forty of his elite private security contractors, sweeping the room with laser precision.
"Drop your weapons!" Arthur screamed, drawing a pistol from his holster with shaking hands. "Or the boy—Lucas—dies right now!"
Arthur gestured toward a makeshift medical cot in the corner of the room, where Lucas lay hooked up to a portable heart monitor, flanked by a mercenary holding a syringe filled with air directly over the IV line.
Julian stopped dead in his tracks. For a fraction of a second, the room fell dead silent.
Arthur smirked, pressing the barrel of his pistol closer to the air valve. "That's right, Julian. Drop the gun. Sign the transfer papers on the console. Do it now!"
Julian slowly lowered his rifle. He let it slip from his fingers, letting it clatter loudly against the concrete floor.
Arthur laughed triumphantly. "Smart man. Now, step back and—"
CLACK.
The sound echoed sharply behind Arthur.
Before Arthur could turn his head, a heavy combat boot slammed directly into the back of his knee, buckling his leg instantly. Arthur crashed to the floor, his pistol skittering across the smooth tiles.
Stepping out from the shadows behind the medical cot was Bane, holding a silenced pistol pressed firmly against the temple of the mercenary guarding Lucas.
"Nice try, amateur," Bane muttered coldly, pulling the trigger on the mercenary's taser belt and sending the guard crumpling to the floor unconscious.
Arthur thrashed on the ground, looking up in sheer horror as Julian casually strolled forward, picking up his fallen rifle and tossing it to a contractor.
"You... you knew?" Arthur choked out, blood dripping from his split lip. "How did you find this place so fast?"
Julian crouched down until he was eye-level with Arthur, a terrifying, predatory smirk on his face.
"You forgot one fundamental rule about real estate, Arthur," Julian whispered softly. "You can't hide a bunker in Europe without filing environmental permits through the local municipality. And every single municipality on this continent... leases its land from my shell corporations."
Julian stood up, signaling to his medics. "Get Lucas on the medical chopper immediately. Prepare him for transport to Zurich."
May you like
He turned back to Arthur, who was now pinned to the floor by two heavy-duty corporate security guards.
"As for you and your family..." Julian adjusted his cuffs, his voice dropping to an arctic chill. "You’re going to spend the rest of your natural lives working off your debts in the exact same charcoal-grey housekeeping uniform you forced my wife to wear."
