Chapter 15 - The New Order

Spring in Chicago arrived with a violent thaw, washing away the winter grime and revealing a city eager to reinvent itself.
The Costa empire was undergoing its own massive structural shift. With Carmine permanently neutralized and Julian safely locked away in a high-security medical retreat under strict supervision, Arthur began dismantling the syndicate's more brutal, outdated operations. He transitioned their capital into legitimate real estate development, shipping logistics, and tech infrastructure.
And at the center of it all sat Nora.
She wasn't hidden away in the west wing anymore. She sat beside Arthur at high-stakes board meetings, negotiated contracts with international executives, and commanded the respect of every underboss from New York to Los Angeles. They didn't call her the "barren bride" behind closed doors anymore; they called her the Iron Queen.
One Saturday morning, the estate courtyard was bursting with life. Tulips bloomed in vibrant reds and yellows along the cobblestone paths.
Leo was kicking a soccer ball across the lawn with Dante, while Mia and Chloe sat at a wrought-iron patio table helping Nora design the layout for a new community center downtown—a philanthropic project funded entirely by Costa capital.
Arthur walked out onto the patio carrying a tray of fresh lemonade, watching his wife direct the children with effortless, calm authority.
"You're spoiling them," Arthur teased, setting the tray down and handing a glass to Nora.
"I'm teaching them how to run an empire without relying on a gun," Nora replied smoothly, taking a sip of the cold drink. She looked over at him, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Though I admit, keeping a shotgun behind the dining room curtains still brings me a certain amount of peace."
Arthur laughed—a rich, booming sound that echoed across the courtyard, drawing curious glances from the kids.
"Remind me never to get on your bad side," Arthur smiled, slipping his arms around her waist and pulling her back against his chest.

"You already were on my bad side the night you bought me for three-point-five million," Nora reminded him dryly.
"Best investment I ever made," Arthur whispered, pressing a kiss to her temple.
