Chapter 1 - The Golden Cage

The lobby of The Archer was a symphony of polished marble and hushed opulence. When Michael walked in with Grace—who looked like a jagged piece of flint amidst the silk-lined luxury—the atmosphere shifted. The concierge, a man who had worked for Michael for a decade, froze.
Grace clutched Noah, her eyes darting like a cornered animal. She was terrified of the warmth. To her, this place wasn't sanctuary; it was a trap.
"I can't stay here," she whispered, her voice raspy.
"You’re staying," Michael said, his voice firm. He signaled for the manager. "Get a suite ready. Heat, warm milk, and call Dr. Aris immediately. Tell him it’s an emergency."
As they reached the penthouse, the contrast was sickening. The suite cost more in one night than Grace had earned in her entire, short, broken life. Kelly reached out, touching the hem of Grace’s coat.
"He's going to be okay now, Grace," Kelly promised.
But as Grace stepped into the bathroom to finally warm her baby, she locked the door. Michael stood outside, pacing. He felt the phantom ache of his own lost family. He needed this win. He needed to prove he wasn't just a man who wrote checks.

Suddenly, a blood-curdling scream erupted from the bathroom. Michael kicked the door open. Grace was on the floor, clutching Noah, but she wasn't looking at the baby. She was staring at her phone—a cracked, ancient piece of technology that had somehow remained charged.
"They found me," she gasped, looking at Michael with eyes full of a horror that had nothing to do with the cold. "Michael, you have to let me out. If you keep me here, you’re dead. Both of you."
