Michael didn't hesitate. He pulled his own licensed sidearm—a relic of his younger, hungrier days—and fired. The chaos exploded. His security team arrived, outmatched but relentless.
In the fray, Grace ran. She bolted toward the forest line, Noah tucked into her jacket. She was running to lead them away, to draw the fire to herself.
"Grace, no!" Michael shouted, but she was gone, disappearing into the white abyss of the storm.
He turned back to the gunmen, his eyes cold, his mind calculating. He wasn't the CEO of Carter Investments anymore. He was a man protecting his own. He orchestrated the defense with the same ruthlessness he used to close multi-billion dollar deals. By the time the police sirens wailed in the distance, the attackers had retreated, but Grace was missing.
