Chapter 5 - The Corporate Executioner

The confined basement erupted into brutal, calculated chaos.

Grant Calloway was not merely a wealthy executive who sat behind a mahogany desk; years ago, before stepping into his father's shoes, he had spent two years in high-tier security operations before corporate destiny dragged him back to the boardroom. Every movement was precise, economical, and devastating.

With a swift swing of the iron bar, he clipped the lead mercenary across the temple, sending the man crashing unconscious onto the frozen concrete. The second mercenary lunged blindly through the steam, knife in hand, but Grant sidestepped with fluid grace, driving a vicious elbow into the man’s throat before sweeping his legs out from under him.

Within thirty seconds, all three attackers were down, groaning in pain on the freezing floor.

Grant stood over them, his breathing heavy, steam swirling around his broad shoulders like a mythical executioner. He crouched down, grabbing the lead mercenary by the collar of his tactical vest and dragging him face-to-face.

"Who sent you?" Grant whispered, his voice dangerously low.

The mercenary spat a mouthful of blood onto the floor, grinning through a broken tooth. "You... you think you won, Calloway? Check... check your corporate terminal. The board... the board already initiated the hostile takeover of your personal trust. The kids... the triplets... they aren't just heirs to your money. They're dead liabilities under corporate bylaws if they don't reach corporate headquarters by dawn."

Grant’s eyes flared with sudden, horrifying realization.

It wasn't a random hit. It was an inside job.

The board of directors at Calloway Global had known about Olivia. They had known about the children all along. And they had engineered her disappearance to prevent the bloodline from claiming absolute, controlling shares of the empire.

"Harrison!" Grant shouted, throwing the unconscious man aside and sprinting toward the rear exit. "Harrison, report!"

The secure radio crackled with frantic static. "Sir! The second Maybach is blocked! We're surrounded in the alley by corporate security tactical units! They have orders to detain the children under emergency custody protocols!"

Grant’s blood ran ice cold. The board had locked down the entire district. They were trapped.
