Chapter 7 - The Empire Reborn

The boardroom on the 80th floor of the Calloway Tower usually hummed with the quiet, sterile tension of billions of dollars changing hands. Tonight, however, the atmosphere was thick with shock, defeat, and absolute silence.

The remaining members of the board of directors sat around the massive mahogany table, their faces pale as ghostly winter shadows.

The heavy double doors swung open.

Grant Calloway walked in. He wasn't wearing his usual corporate scowl. In his arms, wrapped in thick, warm cashmere blankets provided by the private medical team, lay baby Maya, sleeping peacefully against his chest. Walking beside him, clutching his hand tightly, was Harper, wearing a brand-new, warm wool coat and staring in wide-eyed wonder at the glittering skyline of Chicago spread out below the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Behind them, Harrison wheeled elderly Grandma June into the room, ensuring she was comfortable and attended to by top-tier medical specialists.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Grant said, his voice echoing smoothly across the cavernous room as he took his seat at the head of the table. "I trust you've all reviewed the updated registry documents sent to your terminals five minutes ago."

An elderly board member near the end of the table swallowed hard, his hands trembling as he stared at his screen. "Grant... you can't do this. Handing controlling shares to infants—it’s unprecedented! It will destabilize the market!"

"The market will survive," Grant replied flatly, resting a gentle hand on Harper’s shoulder. "What won't survive is any further interference with my family. Effective immediately, every executive tied to the conspiracy against Olivia Reed and her children is permanently stripped of their titles, their pensions, and their security clearances."

Arthur Sterling, sitting near the corner with his head bowed in utter humiliation, tried to speak, but the words caught in his throat.

"As for Calloway Global," Grant continued, his eyes sweeping across the boardroom with absolute, unyielding authority, "we are shifting our primary philanthropic foundation toward maternal healthcare and family sanctuaries across the city. Starting with the complete restoration and funding of St. Jude’s parish."

Harper looked up at her father, her green eyes shining with a mixture of awe and residual fear. "Daddy... is Mama watching us?"

Grant knelt down to her eye level, a soft, genuine smile breaking across his face—the first real smile he had worn in eighteen months.

"Yes, sweetheart," Grant whispered, gently brushing a stray curl from her forehead. "She's watching. And she knows we're finally safe."
