My father stepped out onto the patio, holding two glasses of sparkling cider, handing one down to me with a warm, knowing smile.
“To new beginnings,” Julian said softly, clinking his glass against mine.
“To new beginnings,” I echoed, taking a sip and looking out over the water.
The ghosts of my marriage—the secret hotel receipts, the whispered phone calls, the betrayal in the ICU hallway, and the chilling moment when Carter had looked at our sick daughter and called me emotional—no longer had the power to haunt me.
