Chapter 10 - The Final TwistSix months later.

The courtroom of the Federal District Court was packed to capacity. Flashbulbs blinded the defendants as Eleanor Sterling and her stepdaughter, Claire Sterling, walked arm-in-arm past the media frenzy.

The prosecution’s case against Ethan Vance—who sat at the defense table, pale, hollow-eyed, and convicted of corporate conspiracy, extortion, and attempted murder—was hailed as an open-and-shut victory for justice.

The judge banged his gavel. "Ethan Vance, for your crimes against the Sterling family and the state, I sentence you to twenty-five years in federal prison without the possibility of parole."

As the bailiffs grabbed Ethan’s arms to haul him away, he locked eyes with Claire across the courtroom. She gave him a slow, elegant nod, raising her champagne glass in a silent toast of victory.

Ethan was thrown into the back of a prison transport van, the heavy steel doors slamming shut with a bone-chilling thud, plunging him into eternal darkness.

Back at the courthouse steps, Claire and Eleanor stood before a wall of microphones, basking in the flashbulbs of global media.

"Justice has finally been served," Eleanor announced smoothly into the microphones, flashing her brightest philanthropic smile. "The nightmare is over."

Claire smiled right beside her, stepping up to the central microphone. "Yes," she purred softly, her eyes gleaming with a terrifying secret. "The nightmare for Ethan is just beginning. But the real game... has only just started."

Slowly, deliberately, Claire turned her head and winked directly at a security camera broadcasting live to an unknown, encrypted terminal across the globe—a terminal registered under a name no one had heard in decades: Arthur Sterling, the father they both supposedly murdered five years ago.

The screen flickered, went black, and displayed a single word in bright red text: CONNECTED.
