Chapter 3 - The ReconstructionThe sedan glided silently into the underground parking garage of the Miran Group headquarters in Gangnam—a towering monolith of glass and steel that pierced the neon-lit Seoul sky.

We rode the private executive elevator straight up to the fiftieth-floor penthouse suite.
The room was vast, minimalist, and surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the rain-slicked city. Chairman Kang motioned for me to sit at a massive glass conference table while an executive assistant brought us steaming cups of hot ginseng tea.
I plugged the flash drive into the high-speed terminal built into the table.
Instantly, thousands of encrypted folders, scanned invoices, bank statements, and ledger reconciliations projected onto the massive smart-screen wall behind us.
“My father, Kang Jin-woo, was a meticulous engineer,” I began, my hands no longer shaking as I clicked open the primary file. “When he passed away six years ago, he left Han Textile entirely debt-free, with contracts across three continents. But my stepmother, Han Mi-sook, and her brother—who acted as corporate secretary—systematically drained the accounts.”
Chairman Kang stood behind me, watching the data flow across the screen with intense professional fascination.
“Look at this series of wire transfers in 2024,” I pointed out, pulling up a detailed audit trail. “Over 4.5 billion won was routed through fake logistics companies in Incheon—companies registered under my stepsister So-yeon’s maiden name—and then funneled into offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands.”
Chairman Kang crossed his arms, his eyebrows rising in genuine astonishment. “These aren't just amateur embezzlement records. This is sophisticated corporate laundering. Without master administrative access and forged notary seals, nobody could pull this off without triggering federal banking alarms.”
“That’s because they had inside help,” I said, looking up at him. “A corrupt senior partner at the Seoul District Financial Registry. My stepmother has been using falsified shareholder resolutions to dilute my father’s original equity trust, preparing to sell the entire company to a foreign conglomerate next month.”
The chairman stared at the screen for a long, quiet moment. Then, a slow, predatory smile spread across his face.
“They thought you were an orphan they could throw into the rain for pocket change,” Chairman Kang murmured, turning to look at me with absolute respect. “They didn't realize they had just handed the key to their destruction to the best forensic accountant in the country.”

“I’m just an accounting dropout, Chairman Kang,” I replied softly.
“Nonsense,” he scoffed lightly. “Anyone who can reconstruct three years of destroyed corporate ledgers while living under tyranny is a master strategist. Tomorrow morning, Seo-yeon... we begin the counterattack.”
