Chapter 7 - The Midnight AllianceThe digital clock on the wall blinked 3:14 AM.

Maya stirred on the cot, letting out a soft whimper as she thrashed against a nightmare. Nathan was instantly by her side, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder.

“Hey, Maya. You’re safe. I’m right here,” Nathan murmured softly.

Maya’s eyes fluttered open. Tears spilled over her lashes instantly. “My mommy... she went out to find milk three days ago. She told me to stay in the box and lock the flap from the inside. She never came back, mister. A big car came, and men in dark suits chased us through the alleys. We had to run.”

Nathan’s jaw tightened. They hadn't just been homeless; they had been hunted. Driven out of whatever cheap motel or safehouse Elena had managed to secure, chased into the freezing streets until they had nowhere left to hide.

“What’s your last name, Maya?” Nathan asked gently.

“Rostova,” she whispered. “Mommy always said our last name was a curse.”

Nathan pulled out his phone. He bypassed his corporate contacts entirely and dialed a direct, encrypted number that belonged to Marcus Vance, his head of private security and a former elite intelligence operative.

“Marcus,” Nathan said the moment the line picked up. “I need you at Saint Jude’s Memorial Hospital. Bring two tactical units in unmarked vehicles. And bring a secure DNA kit.”

“Sir? It’s three in the morning,” Marcus replied, his voice instantly alert.

“My brother David is dead, Marcus. But his children are alive. And someone inside Fischer Global wants them erased before the sun comes up.”

A pause hung over the line, heavy and absolute.

“I’m five minutes away, Mr. Fischer,” Marcus said grimly. “Lock the doors.”
