Chapter 3 - THE HOUSE OF CARDS FALLSSirens wailed in the distance, cutting through the glittering Manhattan night air, rising rapidly in volume until they shook the glass panes of the bridal suite. Red and blue emergency lights flashed wildly across the white ceilings, painting the room in frantic stripes of color.

Evelyn’s composure finally shattered. The ice queen shrieked, lunging toward the desk to grab the paperwork. “Give me that contract! You can't arrest us, we have immunity clauses—!”
Nathan intercepted her instantly, blocking her path with a cold, unyielding wall of muscle. “Don't touch it, Evelyn. That’s federal evidence now.”
Marissa dropped the brass lamp with a deafening crash, spinning around to sprint toward the service stairwell. But as she pushed the heavy steel door open, two federal agents in tactical vests stepped out of the stairwell, blocking her exit with zip-ties already in hand.
“Marissa Vance, you have the right to remain silent—” the lead agent’s voice echoed down the concrete stairs.
Down below in the grand ballroom, the muffled panic of three hundred elite guests echoed upward. Music had cut out entirely. Whispers, gasps, and shouts ricocheted through the halls as federal agents marched through the reception doors, their badges held high, sealing all exits.
Daniel stood frozen in the center of the bridal suite. His perfectly tailored tuxedo suddenly looked like a cheap costume. The invincible, untouchable heir to the Blackwood fortune was gone; in his place stood a cornered, sweating coward.
“You planned this,” Daniel whispered, looking at his father with absolute horror. “You set me up.”
“I saved our family name from rotting from the inside out,” Richard replied heavily. He pulled a thick manila folder from his jacket and dropped it onto the vanity, right on top of the fake medical reports Daniel had planted earlier. “Every offshore account, every forged medical document, every illegal stock transfer—it’s all documented. You thought you were the smartest man in the room, Daniel. But greed makes people blind.”
Daniel’s eyes darted toward me. For a second, a flicker of desperate pleading crossed his face. “Amelia... we’re married. We’re husband and wife. You can't testify against me—spousal privilege—”
I stepped right up to him, looking straight into the eyes of the man who had tried to destroy my life, my family, and my sanity in front of hundreds of people just an hour ago.
“The ink on our marriage certificate hasn't even dried, Daniel,” I whispered coldly. “And neither has the annulment petition based on fraud and premeditated poisoning that my lawyer filed electronically twenty minutes ago.”
Two federal agents entered the suite, their footsteps heavy and purposeful. They walked straight past Richard and stopped on either side of Daniel.

“Daniel Blackwood, you are under arrest for corporate fraud, extortion, and the administration of illicit substances,” the agent announced, the heavy click of steel handcuffs sounding like a gavel falling in a courtroom.
As they dragged him away, Daniel didn't look back at Evelyn or Marissa. His eyes stayed locked on mine, filled with a sudden, shivering realization of everything he had lost.
