Chapter 6 - THE CONFESSION IN GLASSArthur Pendelton’s fingers trembled visibly as he reached out and flipped open the leather folder.

Inside lay the exact arbitration records, non-disclosure agreements, and internal safety memos concerning the death of Daniel Reed three years ago—alongside bank statements tracing a series of suspicious wire transfers from a Vanguard subsidiary shell account directly to a personal offshore holding in the Cayman Islands under the name A. Pendelton.

"I... I don't know what this is," Arthur stammered, taking a stumbling step backward until his knees hit the edge of an empty leather chair. "These are old labor disputes, sir. Standard subcontractor settlements. My legal team handled the liability mitigation according to protocol—"

"Your legal team," Julian interrupted, standing up from his chair with slow, deliberate menace.

At six-foot-two, Julian towered over Arthur, his presence casting a suffocating shadow across the entire end of the room.

"My capital funded Vanguard Holdings," Julian said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, rhythmic cadence. "My name was printed on the letterhead of the insurance policies that were supposed to protect workers, not silence them. And you—while I was mourning my wife and unborn child in a dark room—decided to turn my company into a criminal enterprise for your own personal kickbacks."

"Sir, please—" Arthur choked out, his slick demeanor entirely vanished, replaced by the pathetic whimper of a trapped rat. "Let's not be hasty. We can handle this through internal compliance, we can re-evaluate the compensation packages, we don't need to involve—"

"Involve who?" Julian cut him off sharply. "The police? The federal regulators? Or perhaps the press, who would love a front-page exposé on how Mercer Global buries dead construction workers to save a few million dollars in safety upgrades?"

Emma sat silently through it all, her hands tightly folded in her lap, watching the man who had terrified her a week ago tear down the empire of corruption that had stolen her husband. For the first time in three years, the knot of suffocating injustice in her chest began to loosen.

Julian leaned across the table, bringing his face inches from Arthur’s sweating brow.

"You have two hours, Arthur, to clean out your desk, hand over your security badges, and confess to every single falsified safety record in writing," Julian whispered coldly. "If you miss even one detail, I won't just fire you. I will personally ensure you spend the rest of your natural life behind bars in a maximum-security facility."

Arthur didn't wait to be told twice. He turned on his heel and bolted from the boardroom, nearly tripping over his own feet in his desperate scramble to escape.

When the heavy doors clicked shut behind him, the boardroom fell into a profound, heavy stillness.

Julian exhaled slowly, rubbing the bridge of his nose before turning his dark, intense gaze toward Emma.
