Chapter 4 - The Confession of Glass and Blood

The study doors slammed shut with a concussive boom as Arthur locked them from the inside. The air was suffocating, charged with a lethal static.
Elena stumbled backward until her spine hit the heavy oak bookshelves, knocking a decorative globe to the floor with a dull thud. She was trembling uncontrollably now, her polished armor of wealth and social status completely shattered.
"You knew," Arthur whispered, his voice dangerously low, vibrating with a rage so intense it felt unnatural. "Five years ago... it wasn't an accident. Was it, Elena?"
Elena let out a hysterical, broken laugh, tears finally spilling over her mascara-stained cheeks. "An accident? Oh, Arthur, you are so brilliantly naive! You built an empire, you control the markets, but you couldn't see the viper sleeping right beside you in your own bed!"
Arthur lunged forward, grabbing her by the lapels of her crimson suit and slamming her gently against the bookshelf. "Tell me. Now. Before I forget that you're a woman and tear this house down around us."
"It was never about the drowning!" Elena gasped, clutching his wrists, her eyes wild with adrenaline and terror. "Sarah didn't fall off the dock! I pushed her! I cut the brakes on her car the night before she supposedly went to the lake! I planted the forged suicide note in her study!"
Arthur’s grip loosened slightly, not out of pity, but out of sheer, unadulterated shock. The world seemed to tilt on its axis. "You... you killed her? But her body... the police found the wreckage..."
"They found a car in the ravine, Arthur! But it wasn't Sarah inside!" Elena shrieked, her voice cracking with manic triumph. "She survived the crash. She crawled out of the wreckage with amnesia, battered and broken, and stumbled onto the highway where a truck driver picked her up and took her across state lines! I paid off the lead detective to close the case before dental records could be cross-referenced! I bought my life, Arthur! I bought you!"
Silence descended upon the room, heavier than lead.
Arthur slowly released her, staggering back as if he had been physically struck in the chest. His breath came in ragged, shallow gasps. The woman he had loved, the woman he had mourned, the mother of his children... had been systematically hunted down and murdered by the woman he had married to replace her.
"And Clara?" Arthur asked, his voice cracking, a terrifying realization dawning on him. "If Sarah is dead... who the hell is Clara?"
Before Elena could answer, a sharp, metallic click echoed from the doorway.
The heavy oak doors—which Arthur had locked minutes ago—swung slowly inward.
Standing in the threshold, bathed in the harsh white light of the hallway, was Clara. But she wasn't wearing her maid’s apron anymore. She had unpinned her hair, letting it cascade in dark, familiar waves over her shoulders. And in her right hand, she held something that made Elena scream in absolute horror.
It was a heavy, old-fashioned revolver—Arthur’s own hunting gun, retrieved from his private vault.
"Clara isn't a maid, Arthur," a voice came from behind her—smooth, cold, and dripping with an icy venom that belonged to a ghost.

A second figure stepped out from the shadows of the hallway. Taller, older, with the exact same piercing green eyes and sharp jawline.
It was Sarah.
