Chapter 4 - UNTOUCHABLE NO MORE

I pulled into an abandoned industrial junkyard on the edge of town, completely hidden behind stacks of crushed cars. I turned off my truck's GPS tracker, pulled out my laptop, and began making digital duplicates of the 4-Terabyte server hard drive.

I uploaded the raw, unedited video footage of Harrison dragging Lily into the storage room to three different secure cloud servers. Then, I copied the entire archive onto three separate, encrypted black USB thumb drives.

If they were going to play dirty using corrupt political power, I was going to use the one thing they feared more than the law: the public light.

My phone chimed with a news notification.

LOCAL BREAKING NEWS: MAPLEWOOD ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL JASON HARRISON ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING "FALSE ALLEGATIONS" AND WANTED FATHER DAVID VANCE.

I tapped the screen. A video played.

There stood Jason Harrison, dressed in a sharp navy suit, standing at a podium outside the school district headquarters. Beside him stood Superintendent Pendelton and a high-priced defense attorney in a five-thousand-dollar suit.

"It is heartbreaking when a troubled parent, struggling with personal issues, lashes out at the educators who love and care for our children," Harrison said smoothly into the microphones, his face a picture of tragic, noble innocence. "These wild, fabricated claims are a desperate cry for help from a grieving widower. I forgive Mr. Vance, but for the safety of our school community, we urge him to turn himself in to law enforcement immediately."

The nerve of this monster. He was using my dead wife, my grief, and my daughter's real trauma to paint me as an unhinged lunatic.

I looked at my watch. It was 3:00 PM.

Tonight at 7:00 PM, the Maplewood School District was holding an emergency, open-to-the-public Emergency Town Board Meeting at the high school auditorium to address "facility safety and recent community rumors." Pendelton and Harrison were planning to use the meeting as a orchestrated public relations stunt—to officially clear Harrison’s name in front of hundreds of parents and lock me away forever.

I stared at the three black USB drives sitting on my truck’s console.

"You think you're untouchable, Harrison?" I whispered to the empty cab. "Let's see how untouchable you are in four hours."
