Chapter 6 - The Emergency Board MeetingAt 6:30 AM, the sun rose over Lake Michigan, painting the sky in violent shades of orange and purple. Inside the executive boardroom on the 79th floor of Pinnacle Tower, ten members of the Harrington Developments board of directors sat in uncomfortable silence.

They had been summoned by an emergency text sent at 4:00 AM.
Marcus Vance sat at the far end of the mahogany table, looking pale and nervous, whispering frantically to the legal counsel, Arthur Pendelton. When the heavy double doors opened, Blake walked in.
He wasn't wearing his usual crisp, tailored suit. He wore a dark shirt with the sleeves rolled up, looking like a man who hadn't slept, yet radiated a terrifying, focused energy. Maya sat in a small armchair in the corner of the boardroom, wearing a brand-new oversized sweater Blake had had a personal shopper rush over at dawn, quietly coloring in her notebook.
"Blake, what is the meaning of this?" demanded Eleanor Sterling, the senior board member, crossing her arms. "An emergency meeting at dawn? We have the Q3 shareholder gala tonight! The press is waiting for your keynote speech on the Riverside District!"
Blake didn't sit at the head of the table. Instead, he stood behind Maya’s chair, resting a protective hand on her shoulder.
"There will be no gala tonight, Eleanor," Blake said, his voice cutting through the room like a razor. "And the Riverside District project is suspended indefinitely."
An uproar erupted instantly.
"Suspended?!" Marcus shouted, standing up from his chair. "Are you out of your mind? Billions of dollars are tied up in land acquisition, demolition contracts, and pre-sales! You can't just halt the company’s flagship project because of a—"
"Because of a little girl whose home your reckless greed demolished while her parents were still trapped inside," Blake roared, slamming his fist onto the table. The heavy mahogany shook, and the room went dead silent.
Blake threw a thick manila folder onto the center of the table. It slid across the polished wood and stopped right in front of Arthur Pendelton, the legal counsel.

"That folder contains the emergency demolition logs, the time-stamped clearance overrides authorized by Marcus Vance, and the municipal inspection reports that were falsified to meet our quarterly timeline," Blake said, his eyes locking onto Marcus, who had gone completely white. "It also contains a formal confession I wrote at 5:00 AM this morning, detailing every single regulatory violation, corporate cover-up, and human rights breach committed under my watch."
Arthur opened the folder, his hands trembling as he scanned the documents. He looked up at the board, pale-faced. "He's... he's giving it all to the District Attorney and the federal housing authorities."
