Chapter 9 - The Miracle in the RuinsFor fourteen grueling hours, heavy cranes and manual rescue teams combed through the collapsed foundation of 414 Elm Street. Blake worked shoulder-to-shoulder with the rescue workers, ignoring the cuts on his hands, the dust choking his lungs, and the biting Chicago wind.

At 2:30 AM, deep beneath a collapsed concrete slab that had formed a protective pocket over an old utility closet, a rescue dog barked frantically.
"Over here! We have a hit!" a firefighter shouted, waving his flashlight.
Blake dropped his shovel and scrambled over the broken bricks, sliding down into the dark cavity alongside the rescue squad.
There, huddled together in the freezing dark, were two adults—a man and a woman—clinging to each other, shivering violently. Next to them sat a portable emergency oxygen machine with its battery blinking red.
"David! Sarah!" a rescue medic yelled, shining a light on their faces.
The woman blinked against the blinding beam, coughing weakly. "Maya... is our little girl... is Maya safe?" she whispered, her voice barely a breath.
Blake pushed forward, kneeling beside them in the rubble. Tears spilled over his cheeks, entirely unashamed this time.

"She’s safe," Blake choked out, his voice thick with overwhelming emotion. "She’s waiting for you at my penthouse. She gave me her notebook, and she brought me here."
Sarah burst into tears, burying her face in her husband's shoulder as the rescue teams carefully strapped them into stretchers to be lifted out into the crisp night air. Blake watched them go, a profound sense of peace washing over him for the first time in his life. The empire was gone, his wealth was being dismantled to pay for restitution, but as he looked up at the stars through the gap in the ruins, he knew he had finally built something real.
