Chapter 4 - The Unraveling BeginsEthan’s smile faltered. His eyes locked onto Victoria, a flicker of genuine confusion crossing his face.

"Victoria?" Ethan frowned, stepping away from the podium. "What is this? This is a charity event. If this is about corporate filings—"
"Oh, it’s not about corporate filings, Ethan," Victoria interrupted, her voice dripping with lethal amusement as she projected it across the silent room. "It’s about personal accountability. You see, two years ago, you walked out on a marriage, declaring to your lawyer that your wife was 'dead weight' and that you wanted a clean break."
Whispers erupted through the crowd. Jessica’s face drained of color, her grip on her champagne flute tightening so fast her fingers turned white.
"What are you talking about?" Ethan demanded, his voice rising in panic as he stepped down from the stage. "Security, get this woman out of here!"
"Don't bother, Mr. Parker," Victoria said smoothly, snapping the manila folder open. "Because before you walked out that door, your wife didn't cry. She didn't beg. She simply listened. And she took note of every single asset, every offshore account, every secret corporate transfer you made while still legally married to her."
Ethan froze on the steps. "Harper... Where is Harper?"
"Right here, darling," a cool, modulated voice echoed from above.
The spotlight on the mezzanine flickered, shifting instantly away from the stage and locking entirely onto the upper balcony.
All eyes swung upward.
I stepped out of the shadows, the midnight-blue velvet of my gown sweeping gracefully across the landing. My posture was rigid, my expression a mask of absolute, untouchable ice. Beside me, little Chloe stepped out into the light as well, clutching her tiny purse, blinking curiously at the sea of flashing lights.
Ethan looked up. His breath caught in his throat. The color vanished from his face, leaving him looking like a corpse in a tuxedo.

"H-Harper?" he choked out, his voice cracking. "How... what are you doing here? You're... you're not on the guest list."
"I didn't need to be on the guest list, Ethan," I said, my voice carrying effortlessly across the silent ballroom. "I designed the building. And I designed this moment."
