Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Coronation

The mansion shook as a second explosion ripped through the lower levels. The lights flickered and died, plunging the master suite into darkness, lit only by the red glow of the emergency backup strips.

"Stay behind me!" Vincent roared, drawing his weapon as heavy gunfire erupted in the hallway outside.

The door was blown off its hinges for the second time in twenty-four hours.

Victor Falcone stepped through the smoke. His face was covered in soot and blood, his eyes wild with a psychotic frenzy. He held a detonator in one hand and an assault rifle in the other. Behind him, Vanessa followed like a ghoul, holding a jagged piece of glass from her cell window, her face twisted in manic hatred.

"If I don't get Chicago, nobody does!" Victor screamed, leveling his rifle at Vincent. "You took everything from me, Cavalli!"

Vincent fired three rapid shots, but Victor anticipated the move, diving behind the marble pillars of the master bedroom. Vanessa, driven completely insane by greed and jealousy, screamed and lunged past the pillars straight toward Amelia, the glass shard raised high.

"You took my life! You took my crown, you pregnant bitch!" Vanessa shrieked.

Amelia didn't run this time. The maternal instinct overrode her fear. As Vanessa lunged, Amelia grabbed a heavy crystal vase from the nightstand and swung it with all her might.

SMASH!

The vase shattered against Vanessa’s temple. Vanessa gasped, her eyes rolling back as she crumpled to the floor, knocked unconscious instantly.

At the same moment, Victor stepped out from behind the pillar, his rifle pointed directly at Amelia’s back. "Die, you little traitor!"

"NO!" Vincent yelled.

Instead of shooting Victor, Vincent threw his own body in front of Amelia.

BANG!

A single gunshot echoed. But it didn't come from Victor's gun.

Victor froze. He looked down at his chest, where a neat, red hole had appeared right over his heart. He dropped his rifle, his eyes wide in disbelief as he fell backward, crashing through the glass balcony doors and tumbling into the frozen courtyard below.

Standing at the doorway, a smoking gun in his hand, was Marco. He was bleeding from a shoulder wound, gasping for air. "Sorry I'm late, boss. The basement was a mess."

Vincent let out a breath he had been holding for what felt like years. He turned around, grabbing Amelia and holding her so close she could feel the frantic, wild beating of his heart. "It's over. It's finally over."

SIX MONTHS LATERThe sun shone brightly over the grand estate on the shores of Lake Michigan. The security was tighter than a fortress, but inside, the atmosphere was peaceful.

Amelia sat in a beautifully decorated nursery, rocking a beautiful, healthy baby boy in her arms. Little Leo Cavalli had his father’s dark eyes but his mother’s gentle smile.

A pair of strong, warm arms wrapped around Amelia from behind. Vincent leaned down, kissing her cheek, then gently stroking the soft cheek of his son.

"The Commission signed the treaties today," Vincent whispered softly in her ear. "The Falcone family is completely dismantled. The Cavalli empire is fully legitimate now. Legal, clean, and secure. Just as I promised you."

Amelia smiled, leaning her head back against his shoulder. "No more running through the snow?"

"Never again," Vincent promised, his voice filled with an unyielding, fierce love. He slipped a massive, custom-designed emerald ring onto her finger—the true ring of the Queen of Chicago. "You saved my humanity, Amelia. From the moment you took out the trash in that frozen alley, you became my entire world. And no one will ever take you from me."

May you like

Outside, the city of Chicago was quiet under the summer sun, completely aware that a new, unshakeable dynasty had been born—not built on fear, but on a love that survived the ultimate test.

THE END
