Chapter 8 - A NEW DAWN ON MAPLEWOOD DRIVEOne year later, the house at 1427 Maplewood Drive no longer looked like the place where nightmares lived.

City crews had torn down the structure entirely months prior, replacing the cursed plot of land with a community garden filled with blooming sunflowers, bright green grass, and a memorial plaque dedicated to all children who had found the courage to speak up when the world went dark.

On a bright, crisp autumn morning, a silver police cruiser pulled up to the curb.

Officer Daniel Harris and Officer María López stepped out, wearing their dress uniforms, carrying a small wooden picnic basket between them.

Waiting for them by the garden fence was Emily—now nine years old, her hair tied back in a cheerful red ribbon, laughing as she watered a patch of newly planted marigolds alongside her foster mother and Dispatcher Claire Johnson.

Emily turned, saw the two officers walking toward her, and dropped her watering can, running across the grass with a bright, ringing laugh.

She didn't run like a child hiding under a blanket. She ran like a little girl who owned the entire world.

"Uncle Daniel! Aunt María!" Emily yelled, throwing her arms around Daniel's waist.

Daniel picked her up effortlessly, spinning her around in a circle as María laughed, handing Claire a fresh, hot cup of coffee from a local bakery.

The sun climbed higher into the Springfield sky, warming the asphalt, the flowers, and the ordinary suburban street where nobody would ever have to whisper their secrets to a monster again.

And far away, in a cold federal supermax cell beneath the earth, Thomas Miller sat in total, unbroken silence—knowing at last what it felt like to be completely forgotten by the world he had tried to destroy.
