Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup (The Beggar in a Navy Suit)

"He wore a million-dollar suit to find out he didn't have a penny to his name."
The headquarters of Vance Industries occupied the top five floors of a glass skyscraper downtown. Daniel arrived in a panicked sweat, running through the lobby. He didn't even have enough money to park his car; he had abandoned his luxury sports car on the street, only to watch it get towed because the lease had been cancelled.
He broke into the main boardroom, where the top investors and board members were gathered in a tense silence.
At the head of the long mahogany table sat a leather chair—the chair Daniel usually occupied. But today, it was turned toward the window.
"Mom!" Daniel shouted, slamming his hands on the table. "Stop this madness right now! You are embarrassing me in front of my board! So what if Vanessa was rude? She just gave birth! You’re acting like a child!"
The leather chair slowly spun around.
I sat there, wearing a perfectly tailored charcoal wool suit. My hair, which had been damp and messy the night before, was styled elegantly. I looked every bit the billionaire philanthropist I actually was—the identity I had hidden for years to let my son feel like he built the empire himself.
"Rudeness is an understatement, Daniel," I said softly, pouring myself a cup of tea. "She called me filthy. She pushed me. And you stood there and nodded."
"She didn't mean it!" Daniel lied, his voice cracking. "We were stressed!"
"Let’s look at the data, shall we?" I gestured to the massive projector screen behind me.
The security footage from the hospital room played in high definition. The entire board watched in stunned silence as Vanessa sneered, called me a "filthy old woman," and shoved me aside, causing me to fall. They watched Daniel fold his arms and give that slow, approving nod.
The board members gasped. Several turned away in disgust. In the business world, reputation is everything, and Daniel’s primary investors were traditional men and women who valued family above all.
"This is a private matter!" Daniel yelled, turning red.

"Not when the primary shareholder of this company is the woman you allowed to be assaulted," I said, standing up. I tapped a document on the table. "As of 9:00 AM, I have executed the clawback clause. You are stripped of your title as CEO. Your shares are reverted back to the parent estate. Daniel, you are fired."
Chapter 3 Hook: Daniel looked around the room, begging his colleagues for help. But one by one, the board members stood up, turned their backs on him, and walked out, leaving him utterly alone with the mother he had disowned.
