Chapter 20 - The Unbroken General

Ten hours later, the military transport touched down smoothly on the tarmac in Brussels, Belgium. The gray European sky was touched with the first crisp hints of evening, and the lights of the NATO headquarters twinkled in the distance like a field of distant stars.
I descended the aircraft stairs, my boots hitting the European soil with absolute confidence. A security detail of international military police stood at attention by the tarmac, ready to escort me to command headquarters.
As I walked toward the waiting vehicles, I felt a profound, unshakeable peace settle over my soul.
The war I had fought wasn't just the one in the Korangal Valley where I dragged General Vance out of a burning Stryker vehicle. It was the war against a family that tried to own me, a society that tried to mock me, and a world that tried to tell me who I was allowed to be.
I had survived the dust, the blood, the betrayal, and the gold-plated cages of billionaires.
I reached into my pocket, my fingers brushing against the cold, smooth metal of my service badge.
My mother had laughed at the Sterling Hotel, telling everyone her daughter was delusional, that she only pretended to be a leader.
Now, looking out across the vast skyline of international command, I knew the absolute truth.

I wasn't just a survivor.
I was the storm.
