Chapter 3 - Eviction in High Society

By noon, the Vega household was in absolute chaos. The grand driveway was blocked by a black Mercedes SUV. Out stepped Dr. Hugo Altamirano, flanked by two burly men in dark suits and a licensed court notary.
Mateo ran out to the courtyard, sweat staining his designer shirt. "Hugo! What is the meaning of this? Why are you auditing my accounts? I am the executor of my father’s estate!"
"Correction, Mateo," Hugo said, opening a leather dossier. "You were the co-executor. Until you violated Section 4 of your father’s will: the unauthorized liquidation of primary assets for personal enrichment. Furthermore, under Mexican civil law, Article 1316, your mother has executed a decree of revocation of gifts due to ingratitude."
"Ingratitude?!" Valeria shrieked, running out with a designer suitcase. "We let her live here! We let her cook for us!"
"You lived here, in her house, on her money," Hugo countered sharply. "The audit shows you have embezzled a total of $4.2 million USD over five years. Elena has declined to press immediate criminal charges on one condition: you vacate the premises immediately."
"You can't kick us out! This is my home!" Mateo screamed, lunging toward the front door, but Hugo’s security team stepped firmly in his path.
Elena appeared at the top of the stone steps, wearing a sharp, elegant black suit. She looked down at her son and daughter-in-law.
"The cars, the clothes, the country club memberships—they are all seized as collateral against the missing four million," Elena announced, her voice echoing across the courtyard. Neighbors were already peeking over their colonial walls, cell phones out, capturing the high-society downfall.
Santiago began to wail, throwing his tablet onto the gravel. "Daddy! Make her stop! Hit her again! Make her give us our money!"
The neighbors gasped. The truth was out.

Valeria tried to grab her phone to start a livestream, desperately trying to spin the narrative. "Help me, guys! My abusive, senile mother-in-law is throwing us onto the street! She’s mentally unstable!"
But Elena was one step ahead. "Go ahead and stream, Valeria," she smiled grimly. "Because I’ve already uploaded the security footage from yesterday’s lunch to the internet."
