Three months later.
The San Ángel estate had never looked more beautiful. The dark, suffocating energy of greed and arrogance had been washed away, replaced by the laughter of children from the local orphanage who Elena now sponsored.
Mateo and Valeria were awaiting trial in a high-security prison, facing up to twelve years for grand larceny, embezzlement, and fraud. With no money left, their high-priced lawyers had abandoned them, leaving them with public defenders.
Santiago had been placed in a strict, structured boarding facility specializing in behavioral rehabilitation, paid for by a separate state-controlled fund Elena had set up. For the first time in his life, the boy was learning discipline, respect, and the value of hard work—far away from the toxic influence of his parents.
Elena sat in her sunny garden, sipping her favorite chamomile tea. Dr. Hugo Altamirano sat across from her, signing the final papers that transferred the entirety of the Vega fortune into a charitable foundation supporting elderly victims of domestic and financial abuse.
"You did an extraordinary thing, Elena," Hugo said, smiling gently. "Most people would have broken under that kind of public humiliation."
