Chapter 3 - The Morning After the Collapse

Facebook Hook: 📉 From billionaires to bankrupt overnight! The groom’s family woke up to find their bank accounts frozen and their hotels locked down. Then, the ex-bride made her grand entrance… 📉
By 8:00 AM the following morning, the news of the cancelled De la Vega wedding had transitioned from society gossip to the front pages of every financial newspaper in the country.
"DE LA VEGA EMPIRE CRUMBLES: CONTINENTAL HOLDINGS TERMINATES ALL LEASES DUE TO HISTORIC CONTRACT VIOLATION."
Stock prices for De la Vega Hospitality were in a freefall, dropping 40% within the first hour of the market opening. Panic-stricken investors were dumping shares by the millions.
Inside the penthouse apartment of the De la Vega family in Mexico City, the atmosphere was thick with desperation. The luxury penthouse, filled with priceless art and imported furniture, suddenly felt like a prison.
"They can't do this!" Lorena screamed at a team of four lawyers sitting around their mahogany dining table. "We built those hotels! We managed them! We are the face of luxury in this country!"
The lead lawyer, a gray-haired man named Mauricio, sighed heavily, rubbing his temples. "Lorena, you don't understand. The original contract signed by Alejandro’s father was ironclad. Continental Holdings owns the land. According to Section 14B, if the De la Vega family engages in behavior that damages the moral standing or public reputation of the partnership, Continental has the right to seize the properties and all assets tied to the land. The public scene you made last night, combined with the recording of your insults that is currently viral on social media, gave them the perfect legal ammunition."
"A recording?!" Santiago snapped, his head jerking up from his hands.
Fernanda opened her laptop and turned it toward her brother. A video taken by one of the wedding guests had been uploaded to TikTok. It already had 12 million views. The caption read: “Billionaire family humiliates poor mother of the bride—doesn't know she owns their entire life.” The video clearly captured Lorena calling Elena 'trash' and Santiago’s cowardly, mocking laugh.
The comments were brutal.
“Boycott De la Vega Hotels!” “Karma came fast!” “Look at the groom laughing. Disgusting!”
Santiago felt a sick sensation in his chest. His phone had been ringing nonstop with texts from his friends, business partners, and board members. Every single one of them was distancing themselves from him.
Suddenly, the penthouse doors flew open. Two men in dark suits stepped inside, followed by an older man carrying a leather briefcase.
"Who the hell are you?!" Alejandro demanded, standing up from the table. "This is private property!"
The older man stepped forward, adjusting his glasses. "Mr. De la Vega, my name is Federico Vance. I am the Chief Executive Officer of Continental Holdings, representing Madam Elena Fuentes."
At the mention of Elena’s name, the room went dead silent.
Federico opened his briefcase and pulled out a stack of documents, laying them flat on the table. "As of 9:00 AM today, all bank accounts tied to De la Vega Hospitality have been frozen pending a full forensic audit. Furthermore, this penthouse asset is registered under the subsidiary company that utilizes Continental funding. You have forty-eight hours to vacate the premises."
"Forty-eight hours?!" Lorena shrieked, her voice reaching a hysterical pitch. "You are kicking us out onto the street?! Based on what?!"
"Based on the fact that you do not own this street, Mrs. De la Vega," a new voice echoed through the penthouse.
Everyone turned.
Valeria walked into the room. She was no longer wearing the white wedding gown. Instead, she wore a sharp, tailored black power suit, her hair pulled back into a sleek ponytail. Beside her walked two security guards.
Santiago stared at her, his breath catching in his throat. She looked entirely different. The sweet, gentle girl he thought he could control had vanished. In her place stood a woman who radiated immense power.
"Valeria!" Santiago scrambled toward her, his hands extended in a desperate plea. "Valeria, please! You have to talk to your mother! This is a massive misunderstanding! I love you. You know I love you! I was just shocked last night, I didn't mean to laugh—"
"Save it, Santiago," Valeria said, her voice dropping to a freezing temperature. She didn't even look at him. She looked past him, directly at Lorena and Fernanda, who were staring at her with a mix of terror and deep-seated hatred.
"You called my mother a cleaning lady," Valeria said softly, stepping closer to the table. "You said she looked like she wanted to steal your centerpieces. Well, as it turns out, she doesn't need your centerpieces. She owns the table they were sitting on. She owns the building you are standing in. And today, I am taking over as the Vice Chairwoman of Continental Holdings."

Valeria leaned down, placing her hands flat on the table, looking Alejandro De la Vega dead in the eye.
"The De la Vega dynasty ends today," Valeria whispered. "Pack your bags."
