Chapter 5 - The Wrath of a Mother

Facebook Hook: ⚡ She insulted the wrong woman! Lorena De la Vega tried to crash a billionaire gala to beg for mercy, but the 'cleaning lady' was waiting for her with a broom and a legal document that changed everything… ⚡
With Santiago locked behind bars facing felony extortion charges and their bank accounts completely wiped out by legal fees, Lorena De la Vega had reached the absolute end of her rope.
The high society friends who used to beg for invitations to her dinner parties now blocked her number. The charity boards she chaired had stripped her of her titles. She was an outcast in her own city.
But Lorena refused to accept defeat. She discovered that Continental Holdings was hosting its annual charity gala at the National Museum of Art—an event that Elena Fuentes herself would be attending as the guest of honor.
Lorena spent the last of her hidden cash to buy a counterfeit invitation and a dress from a consignment shop. "I will make her see reason," Lorena muttered to herself in the mirror, her hands shaking as she applied heavy makeup to cover the stress lines on her face. "She’s just a peasant who got lucky. She will break if I pressure her in front of her peers."
The gala was spectacular. The crème de la crème of Latin American society mingled beneath towering murals, sipping champagne.
At the center of the room stood Elena Fuentes. She wore a stunning, classic gown of deep midnight blue, adorned with a simple but priceless pearl necklace that had belonged to her grandmother. She was surrounded by foreign ambassadors and banking magnates, all listening to her speak with deep respect.
Lorena pushed her way through the crowd, her breathing ragged. "Elena!" she called out, her voice cutting through the sophisticated chatter.
The crowd quieted down as Lorena stepped into the inner circle. She looked disheveled, her eyes manic despite her expensive dress.
Security guards instantly stepped forward to block her, but Elena raised a single hand, stopping them.
"It's alright," Elena said smoothly, her eyes locking onto Lorena. "Let her speak."
Lorena took a step closer, trying to assume her old, haughty posture, but her voice betrayed her desperation. "Elena... we need to talk. This farce has gone far enough. My son is in jail because of your daughter’s trap! Our family has lost everything! Yes, maybe some things were said at the wedding... but it was a private family matter! You have completely destroyed our lives over a few words!"
The guests around them began to murmur in disgust, recognizing Lorena from the viral videos.
Elena took a step toward Lorena. The quiet, humble aura she usually maintained dissolved, replaced by the crushing weight of a woman who had built a ten-billion-dollar empire from the ground up.
"A private family matter, Lorena?" Elena asked, her voice dropping to a dangerous whisper that vibrated through the silent hall. "You stood in a public garden and called me trash. You laughed at the hands that worked for decades to give my daughter an education. But you see, I didn't destroy your family because you insulted me."
Elena stepped even closer, until she was mere inches from Lorena’s pale face.
"I destroyed your family because you showed me what you would do to my daughter the moment she became your daughter-in-law. You would have crushed her spirit. You would have made her feel small, unworthy, and weak. You would have consumed her life with your toxic, superficial arrogance."
"We are the De la Vegas!" Lorena hissed, tears of anger spilling over her eyelids. "You cannot just erase us!"
"The De la Vegas are nothing but a name on a piece of paper that I just shredded," Elena said coldly. She signaled to her assistant, who handed her a leather folder.
Elena opened it, revealing a final legal decree. "This is a seizure notice for the remaining personal properties of Alejandro and Lorena De la Vega to satisfy the outstanding breach-of-contract debts owed to Continental Holdings. Your cars, your art, your jewelry... everything is being repossessed tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM."
Lorena gasped, clutching her chest. "No... no, you can't! We will have nothing!"
Elena looked at her with a calm, terrifying serenity. "You will have exactly what you brought into this world, Lorena. Nothing. Now, security... please remove this woman. She is ruining the atmosphere."

Two large security guards grabbed Lorena by the upper arms. She screamed and struggled, her counterfeit high heels slipping on the marble floor as she was dragged through the crowd of hundreds of people who watched her exit with cold indifference.
Elena turned back to the ambassador she had been speaking with, her face softening into a polite smile. "Now, where were we?"
