Chapter 7 - The Final Confrontation

Facebook Hook: 🚔 He begged for mercy from behind bars, but she looked him dead in the eye and said five words that broke him completely. The final showdown between the ex-fiancé and the billionaire queen… 🚔
Before Santiago De la Vega was transferred to a maximum-security federal penitentiary to serve his six-year sentence, he requested one final meeting with Valeria. Under corporate law and prison regulations, she was not obligated to go, but Valeria decided she needed to close this chapter of her life forever.
The visitation room at the federal detention center was cold, smelling of industrial bleach and old paint. A thick glass partition separated the inmates from the visitors.
Valeria sat down on the metal chair, waiting calmly. A minute later, the heavy iron door on the other side opened, and Santiago was led in by two guards.
He looked unrecognizable. The perfectly coiffed hair was shaved raw to his scalp. The custom-tailored suits were replaced by a rough, oversized orange jumpsuit. He looked thin, exhausted, and broken.
He sat down, slowly picking up the heavy plastic telephone receiver. Valeria did the same.
"Valeria..." Santiago’s voice was raspy, completely devoid of the old, arrogant charm. "Thank you for coming. I didn't think you would."
"I didn't come for you, Santiago," Valeria said evenly, her voice completely flat. "I came to ensure that you understand exactly why you are here."
Santiago pressed his forehead against the cold glass. "Valeria, please... look at me. I am losing everything. My family is starving. My mother is having nervous breakdowns every day. My father can barely look at his own reflection. Please... use your influence. Get me out of here. I'll do anything. I'll work for your mother's factories. I'll clean the floors of your new resorts. Just don't leave me in here."
Valeria looked at him, searching her heart for any lingering resentment, anger, or sadness. She found nothing. Just a deep, hollow pity for a man who still didn't understand the true nature of his crime.
"You still think this is about money, don't you?" Valeria whispered through the phone.
"What?" Santiago blinked, confused.
"You think you are in jail because my mother is a billionaire and she used her power to crush you," Valeria said. "But the truth is, Santiago, you are in jail because of your own choices. You choose to value people based on their labels. You chose to laugh when your mother insulted a woman who gave up her entire youth to give me a future. You chose to try and blackmail me instead of earning an honest living after your empire collapsed."
"I was desperate!" Santiago shouted, his voice cracking as tears filled his eyes. "You don't know what it's like to lose everything overnight!"
"My mother lived with nothing for decades while owning billions, Santiago," Valeria retorted sharply. "She did it to protect her soul from turning into what you are. You didn't lose everything overnight. You never had anything to begin with. Your entire life was built on an illusion of superiority that my family funded."
Santiago shook his head frantically, his hands smudging the glass partition. "Valeria, we loved each other! Remember the trips? The promises? We were going to build a life together!"
"The woman you loved was an illusion, too," Valeria said, standing up from the chair. She looked down at him, her eyes clear, steady, and blindingly powerful. "You loved a girl you thought you could look down on. You loved a girl whose family you could patronize."
She slowly began to hang up the phone, but before she did, she leaned close to the grill.
"Goodbye, Santiago. Enjoy your new home."
She hung up the receiver with a definitive click. Santiago screamed something through the glass, slamming his fists against it, but the guards quickly stepped forward, grabbing his shoulders and dragging him back through the heavy iron door into the dark hallway of the prison.

Valeria walked out of the facility into the bright, warm afternoon sun. She took a deep, clean breath of fresh air.
The past was officially dead.
