Chapter 5 - THE DOUBLE LIFE OF RYAN HALEClare felt the world tilt. She looked at the crib, then back at Ryan, who was weeping—a raw, ugly sound that didn't fit the billionaire image.
"I didn't build the tower to kill people, Clare," Ryan sobbed. "I built it to be a monument to my family. The fraud... it wasn't mine. It was my father. He kept me in the dark, and when the lobby collapsed, he framed the workers to keep me from turning him in. He threatened my remaining family. I spent three years gathering evidence to destroy my own father’s company from the inside."
Clare didn't want to believe him, but the desperation in his eyes was too real. He hadn't saved her because of guilt; he had saved her because she was the only piece of David he had left.
"If that's true," Clare said, her voice shaking, "then we have a common enemy."
