Chapter 2 - THE CRACK IN THE EMPIRE"DAVID!"

Robert Moretti’s roar shook the crystal chandelier hanging above the dining table. It was the roar of a patriarch whose iron-clad legacy had just been shattered in front of his inner circle—his brothers, his cousins, his most trusted capos disguised as family advisors.
On the screen, the intimate bedroom scene continued playing with brutal, unedited clarity. David had just pinned Elena against the mattress, his voice dropping into a low, vicious murmur that every person in the room heard loud and clear:
"Just a few more weeks, Elena. Once I legally consolidate the offshore accounts and transfer Claire's family shares into the syndicate's holding shell, I’ll strip her of everything. She’ll walk out of this house with nothing more than the clothes on her back. She thinks she’s safe because of her father’s old name? I’ll crush what's left of her bloodline into dust."
A cold, heavy dread settled into my stomach, instantly replaced by a blinding white-hot fury.
So it wasn't just an affair. It was an execution. They weren't just sleeping together; they were plotting to rob me of my inheritance, my identity, and my legal rights, using my own marriage bed as their war room.
Aunt Beatrice dropped her porcelain teacup, shattering it into a thousand glittering pieces against the floorboards. Uncle Marco, a man with a federal rap sheet longer than his arm, slowly stood up, his hand sliding instinctively toward his jacket where a heavy Beretta rested in its shoulder holster.
"Is this true, Martha?" Marco snarled, his gaze snapping like a whip toward the matriarch. "Did you know about this little whore? Did you help him plot to steal Claire’s family holdings behind our backs?"
"No! Of course not!" Martha shrieked, her aristocratic composure completely disintegrating as she stumbled backward away from me. "It’s a trick! It’s—it’s deepfake technology! Claire hacked the system! She’s trying to frame my son!"
"A deepfake with our bedroom ambient lighting and your son’s exact voice talking about the offshore shell accounts?" Cousin Vince scoffed, crossing his massive arms as he stared at the screen with a dark, cynical grin. "Open your eyes, Auntie. Your golden boy got caught with his pants down. Literally."
Before Martha could scramble for another lie, heavy, rapid footsteps echoed down the grand oak staircase.
The bedroom door upstairs had finally been yanked open.
David came barreling down the steps, his tie loosened, his hair slightly rumpled, a mask of cold, calculated authority plastered across his face. He strode into the living room, ready to deploy his famous charm, ready to gaslight, ready to twist reality until everyone apologized to him.
"What is the meaning of this commotion?" David demanded, his voice slicing through the tense air with practiced coolness. He didn't look at the screen immediately; he looked straight at me, his eyes narrowing into dangerous slits. "Claire, what have you done this time?"
May you like
He took three steps toward me, raising a hand in that familiar, condescending gesture meant to make me feel small, irrational, and unhinged in front of his family.
Then, he finally turned his head and saw the giant projection on the wall.
