Chapter 8 - THE NEW DYNASTYThe quarterly shareholder meeting of Moretti Holdings was unlike any other in the history of the syndicate-backed conglomerate.

For decades, the boardroom had been a fortress of intimidation, where fear was currency and dissent was swiftly crushed beneath the heavy boots of the old guard. Today, however, the atmosphere was charged with a different kind of energy—one of cautious respect, absolute discipline, and undeniable financial supremacy.

As I walked through the double doors wearing a sharp, midnight-blue silk pantsuit, every single executive, regional director, and syndicate capo stood up in unison.

Even Robert Moretti, sitting at the far end of the table as an honorary, powerless advisor, offered a stiff, respectful nod of his head. The old patriarch had aged ten years since the night of the projector, his iron grip on the family completely broken, replaced by the quiet acknowledgment that the throne now belonged entirely to me.

"Please, sit," I said, my voice cutting through the silent room with effortless authority.

I took my seat at the absolute center of the obsidian table, resting my hands gracefully on the polished surface. Behind me, the massive floor-to-ceiling smart glass wall displayed the latest quarterly financial projections—showing a staggering thirty-five percent increase in clean, legitimate corporate revenue since the purging of David’s offshore shell accounts.

"Today marks a new era for Moretti Holdings," I began, scanning the faces of the most dangerous men in the city, holding their gaze without a single flicker of hesitation. "We are moving away from the vulnerabilities, the reckless liabilities, and the hidden liabilities that nearly brought this enterprise to its knees three weeks ago."

Uncle Marco sat to my right, arms crossed, a faint, approving smile playing on the corners of his lips. He knew, and everyone in the room knew, that I wasn't just managing the company—I had successfully transformed a criminal syndicate into a legitimate, untouchable corporate empire with myself at the absolute apex.

"Mr. Vance," I nodded toward my chief legal counsel sitting near the back. "Please distribute the new operational charters."

Thick, leather-bound folders were slid across the mahogany table. As the executives opened them, murmurs of astonishment rippled through the room. Every shadow asset, every high-risk liability, and every loose end from David’s era had been completely audited, cleaned, or legally severed.

We weren't just surviving; we were expanding into global markets, completely untouchable by federal prosecutors because every transaction was now squeaky-clean, backed by airtight corporate law and my absolute, undisputed control.

As the meeting commenced, discussing international acquisitions and multi-million-dollar real estate developments, I leaned back in my leather executive chair.

For five years, I had lived in the shadow of a man who controlled an empire while trying to convince me I was losing my mind. Now, the empire answered only to me.
