Chapter 11 - Whispers of the Syndicate Board

The morning sun cast long golden beams across the marble terrace of the Morty estate, but inside the high-level boardroom, the atmosphere remained frosty and tense. Senior capos and regional directors sat in absolute silence as Julian Morty stepped to the head of the polished oak table. Seated directly to his right was Sarah Bennett, wearing a sharply tailored charcoal blazer, her tablet open to a live global liquidity feed.

"The neutralization of Marcus Salvator’s terminal operations stabilized our West Coast assets," Julian announced, his voice slicing through the room with authority. "However, Salvator was merely a proxy. The old regional council in New York views our expansion into legal shipping fronts as a direct threat to their cartel structures."

A senior director named Frank, a man whose family had served the Morty dynasty for four decades, leaned forward, narrowing his eyes at Sarah. "With all due respect, Mr. Morty, our operations have survived for fifty years on blood and iron. Bringing a civilian into our strategic core alters the rules of our lineage. How do we know Ms. Bennett’s loyalty holds when federal pressure mounts?"

Sarah did not flinch. She did not look to Julian for protection. Instead, she slid her tablet forward, projecting a complex financial matrix onto the wall screen.

"Frank," Sarah said, her voice smooth and unyielding. "Your primary offshore shipping conduit in the Bahamas was flagged by federal investigators forty-eight hours ago because you used a standard corporate registration matching your personal alias. If I hadn't scrubbed the logs and rerouted your capital through our shell entities yesterday morning, federal agents would have frozen your accounts by noon."

The room went dead silent. Frank turned pale, staring at the screen in absolute disbelief.

Julian’s lips curved into a faint, dangerous smirk. "Never question the woman who keeps you out of federal prison, Frank. The meeting is adjourned."
