Chapter 5 - The Gathering StormMidnight fell over the Moretti estate like a heavy, suffocating blanket of black velvet.

The wedding reception had been dismantled hours ago. The expensive champagne bottles were boxed, the white rose arches torn down, and the frightened guests sent home with generous apologies and sealed lips.
Inside the grand study on the mansion's top floor, Alessandro poured himself a glass of aged bourbon.
The room was dark except for the amber glow of the desk lamp. On the mahogany desk lay Isabella’s background file—a dossier compiled by his security team weeks ago, which he had foolishly ignored, blinded by her outward charm.
The door creaked open.
Marco Ricci stepped into the room, his face grim, holding a glowing tablet.
“Boss,” Marco said without preamble. “We tracked Isabella’s vehicle. She didn't go back to her family home downtown.”
Alessandro narrowed his eyes, swirling the amber liquid in his glass. “Where did she go?”
“She checked into an abandoned warehouse district near the old shipping docks,” Marco reported, sliding the tablet across the desk. “And she wasn't alone. Intercepted radio transmissions show she met with Viktor Petrov.”
Alessandro’s glass stopped mid-air.
Viktor Petrov. The ruthless head of the rival Russian Bratva syndicate—a man Alessandro had humiliated in a territorial dispute six months prior.
“Petrov,” Alessandro murmured, the name tasting like poison on his tongue. “Isabella was working with him?”
“It goes deeper than that,” Marco said, his jaw tightening. “Our informants report that Isabella wasn't just marrying you for status. She was planted inside your organization by Petrov to steal the encryption keys to our European shipping lanes. When you called off the wedding, her mission failed. But Petrov isn't cutting her loose.”
Alessandro slammed his glass down onto the desk, amber liquid splashing across the wood. “Where are they now?”
“That’s the problem, Boss,” Marco hesitated. “They aren't at the docks anymore. Ten minutes ago, a black van breached the perimeter of the outer estate. Security guards were neutralized before they could raise the alarm.”

A sudden, bone-chilling realization struck Alessandro.
He didn't wait for Marco to finish. He bolted from the study, his boots pounding furiously against the polished hardwood floors of the hallway, racing toward the domestic quarters where Sophia and Emma slept.
