They didn't know his real name wasn't even important anymore.
Inside a dimly lit private dining room at one of Manhattan’s most exclusive private clubs, a group of five international shipping executives sat around a circular mahogany table, speaking in hushed, nervous tones.
Across from them sat a single empty chair.
"I heard Vale Dominion’s new managing director is auditing our supply contracts personally," one executive whispered, his hands trembling slightly as he held a glass of scotch. "They say she’s ruthless. No warning, no negotiations. If a company shows a single percentage point of financial irregularity, she shuts them down overnight."
"Who is she?" another asked, leaning forward. "Nobody even knows her background. Some say she’s Elias Vale’s secret partner. Others say she’s an independent auditor brought in from Zurich."
The heavy oak doors of the private dining room swung open.
Silence fell over the table instantly.
I walked into the room, wearing a midnight-blue velvet blazer, my hair swept back, my posture completely unyielding. Behind me stood two senior security specialists from Vale Dominion, carrying encrypted briefing tablets.
I didn't smile. I didn't introduce myself.
I walked straight to the empty chair at the head of the table, sat down, and folded my hands neatly on the mahogany surface.
I looked around the table, meeting the terrified eyes of five men who had spent their entire careers believing that corporate power belonged exclusively to them.
