Chapter 15 - The Unspoken Question

Back in Chicago, the private jet touched down under a quiet, starlit sky. The victory in Zurich had cemented their corporate dominance across Europe and North America, but as the town car carried them through the iron gates of the estate, the heavy silence in the back seat felt different.

They stepped out into the courtyard, the crisp night air wrapping around them. Raphael walked Josephine to the front steps of the manor, stopping just beneath the warm amber glow of the entryway lantern.
He looked down at her—really looked at her—taking in the fierce, brilliant, unbreakable woman she had become.
“You know,” Raphael began, his voice uncharacteristically hesitant, “when you knocked on my study door at 12:43 that night... I thought my life was just a series of closed doors and regrets.”

“Now,” Raphael said, his voice steady and absolute, “I realize I spent my whole life building walls to keep the world out, when all I really needed was a partner who knew how to walk right through them.”
Josephine’s breath hitched. For a second, the timid maid who apologized to furniture flashed behind her eyes, before dissolving entirely into the formidable executive who ruled the city by his side.

“It’s a permanent merger,” Raphael replied, taking her hand. “For the rest of our lives.”
