Chapter 10 - The Final DiagnosisAn hour later, the private elevator of Harbor Mercy Medical Center dinged softly, opening directly onto the fourth-floor trauma ward.

The floor was completely empty. Caleb had purchased the remaining equity of the hospital two days prior, effectively turning the entire facility into his private domain.

Dr. Harrison Brooks was standing at the central nurses' station, frantically packing medical files into a briefcase, his hands shaking uncontrollably as he realized the lockdown had been activated.

He looked up as footsteps echoed down the polished hallway.

Caleb Rossi walked out of the shadows, flanked by Enzo and Rachel.

Brooks turned deathly pale, dropping his pen onto the floor. "C-Caleb... Mr. Rossi. I thought—you shouldn't be out of bed—"

"Save it, Harrison," Rachel said, stepping forward. Her voice was steady, devoid of the fear she used to feel in this very hallway.

"Rachel—please," Brooks stammered, backing away until his spine hit the nursing station desk. "You don't understand. They threatened my family. They said if I didn't let him die on the table—"

"They didn't threaten your family, Harrison," Caleb interrupted coldly, pulling a dossier from his coat and tossing it onto the desk. "They paid off your offshore account in the Cayman Islands to cover your poker debts. You sold your Hippocratic oath for half a million dollars."

Brooks looked desperately between Caleb, Enzo, and Rachel. "You can't do anything to me! I'm a surgeon! The medical board—"

"The medical board doesn't exist in our world anymore," Enzo said quietly, stepping forward and blocking the doctor's only escape route.

Rachel looked down at the man she once respected as a chief of surgery. The realization of how fragile life and death truly were washed over her. She had spent her entire life trying to save people from dying on hospital tables. But tonight, she realized that some things needed to be excised like a malignant tumor.

She looked at Caleb.

Caleb nodded slightly, handing her a heavy, gold-plated silver scalpel from a surgical tray nearby.

"You brought me back to life, Rachel," Caleb whispered, his gray eyes burning with fierce, absolute devotion. "Now, you write the final chart."

Rachel took the scalpel. She walked slowly toward the trembling surgeon, her face a mask of cold, unyielding power. The ER nurse from Logan Square was gone. In her place stood the true queen of Chicago.

She placed the flat edge of the scalpel against Brooks's throat, watching him sweat in terror.

"Time of death," Rachel whispered softly into his ear, "is right now."

EPILOGUE: Queen of the CitySix months later, the Chicago River reflected the glittering neon lights of the financial district.

From the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of her penthouse office overlooking the entire city, Rachel Rossi swirled a glass of vintage wine. Below her, the streets of Chicago moved with clockwork precision—every shipping lane, every construction firm, every warehouse operating under the unbreakable authority of the Rossi Syndicate.

The door behind her opened softly.

Caleb walked in, his footsteps silent on the imported Persian rugs. He stepped up behind her, wrapping his strong, uninjured arm around her waist, resting his chin gently on her shoulder.

"You've been staring at the skyline for an hour," Caleb murmured.

"I was just thinking about where I was six months ago," Rachel replied softly, leaning back into his embrace. "Bad coffee, rattling radiators, and a twelve-hour shift in the ER."

"Do you miss it?" Caleb asked, a hint of vulnerability in his voice.

Rachel turned around in his arms, looking up into those piercing gray eyes that had nearly closed forever on a trauma table. She raised her hand, tracing the scar on his jawline before wrapping her arms around his neck.

"I don't miss the chaos," Rachel smiled, a dangerous, beautiful spark dancing in her eyes. "Besides... I still work in emergency trauma. I just upgraded my patients."

Caleb laughed, pulling her flush against him, pressing a deep, passionate kiss to her lips as the Chicago night burned bright around them, forever under their command.
