Chapter 3 - The Ghost of the BoardroomInside the Grand Seaside Resort ballroom, the string quartet struck up a triumphant waltz.

Richard Donovan felt a surge of absolute, intoxicating power. The glitch—the minor, annoying glitch that was his eldest daughter—had been excised. The wedding was proceeding precisely as he had orchestrated. Millionaires, senators, and developers clapped him on the back, praising his "strong leadership" and "uncompromising family values."
“You handled that like a true titan, Mr. Donovan,” cooed Arthur Sterling, the groom’s father and CEO of Sterling Hospitality. “A lesser man would have let family sentiment get in the way of business.”
“Sentiment is a luxury for the weak, Arthur,” Richard replied, taking a slow sip of his Macallan 25. “My company was built on blood, sweat, and absolute control. Nobody crosses a Donovan and survives.”
At that exact moment, the massive crystal chandelier hanging from the vaulted ceiling flickered violently.
Once. Twice. Then, complete darkness plunged the ballroom into an eerie, suffocating silence.
“What the hell?” someone muttered near the back.
Before the emergency lighting could kick in, every single television screen and digital projector lining the ballroom walls—screens that had been looping romantic slideshows of Vanessa and Julian—simultaneously flickered to life.
The romantic photos vanished.
In their place appeared a massive, high-resolution financial audit document stamped with the seal of the Federal Securities and Exchange Commission, alongside the internal ledger of Donovan Construction.
A collective gasp sucked the air right out of the room.
“What is this? Turn that off!” Richard roared, his face draining of color as he recognized the document. It was the original ledger—the one detailing the thirty million dollars in offshore shell companies, the falsified safety inspections on the downtown high-rise project, and the illegal transfer of employee pension funds.
Above the ledger, bold letters spelled out a single sentence:
RICHARD DONOVAN: ARCHITECT OF FRAUD. THE EMPIRE IS INSOLVENT.
“Daddy!” Vanessa shrieked, dropping her bouquet as she stared up at the screen. “What is that? Why is our company on the wall? People are filming it! Look, guests are live-streaming!”
Richard lunged toward the audio-visual booth, his face purple with blind rage. “Cut the power! Cut the main breaker NOW!”
“It’s locked, sir,” the panicked DJ shouted over the microphone, his hands flying uselessly over a frozen console. “Remote override! The entire network is controlled from an external satellite feed! We can’t stop it!”

The doors to the grand ballroom didn't just open—they blew wide open, crashing against the mahogany walls with a force that shook the foundation.
A heavy, absolute silence fell over the four hundred guests.
