Chapter 3 - The Boardroom ExecutionWith trembling fingers, Daniel yanked his phone out of his pocket and stared at the glowing screen.

His face went from pale to ash-gray in a single heartbeat.

The notification wasn't just a routine update from the family trust administration. It was an emergency legal summons and asset freeze order issued directly by Hale & Vance Legal Partners, signed by senior managing partners who answered directly to Arthur Hale—Daniel’s strict, status-obsessed billionaire father.

“URGENT NOTICE OF TRUST REVOCATION,” the banner read in bold red letters. “To: Daniel Vance. Subject: Breach of Trust Covenants & Asset Forfeiture. Effective immediately, all secondary residential properties, corporate voting shares, and trust distributions are suspended pending investigation into unauthorized conveyance of family heirlooms and abandonment of direct heirs.”

“This... this is a mistake,” Daniel whispered, his voice trembling so violently he could barely hold the device. He looked up at me, his eyes wide with a pathetic mixture of rage and terror. “You did this. You planned this.”

“I didn't have to plan anything, Daniel,” I replied, stepping slightly closer, my voice dropping into a calm, ice-cold register that cut through the airport noise. “You wrote the script yourself. You spent four months drinking cocktails in the Mediterranean while your daughters fought for their first breaths in a neonatal intensive care unit. You thought you could come back here, flash a luxury tan, flaunt your mistress, and toss us aside like old trash.”

I tilted my head, looking down at Chloe, who had suddenly lost all the color in her face.

“And you, Chloe? You thought you hit the jackpot with a wealthy corporate heir. But you didn't check the fine print, did you? That ring on your finger isn't a symbol of eternal love. It’s a tracking beacon for the family legal team. Wearing it outside of an official marriage to a recognized heir constitutes felony conversion under the trust’s charter.”

Chloe’s eyes widened in horror. She instinctively tried to pull the emerald-cut ring off her finger, but her hands were sweating so badly the heavy gold band refused to budge over her knuckle.

“You... you tricked me!” Chloe shrieked, whirling around to face Daniel, her manicured nails suddenly clawing at the lapel of his expensive linen suit. “You told me your wife was a pushover! You said she’d sign whatever you put in front of her! You said the house was entirely yours!”

“Shut up, Chloe!” Daniel snarled, shoving her away with a roughness that shocked the passing travelers. “Just shut your mouth!”

“Oh, don’t fight now,” I said brightly, pulling a small, thick manila envelope out of the diaper bag hanging over my shoulder. “Actually, please do. It makes the paperwork so much easier to process.”

I opened the flap of the envelope and pulled out a single sheet of paper—pre-printed, notarized by our family attorney three days ago, and waiting only for a signature.

“What is that?” Daniel demanded, his eyes darting to the document.

“It’s the voluntary relinquishment of parental rights,” I said simply. “You wanted a fresh start, right? You have a ‘son on the way’—or whatever lies you whispered to your girlfriend to keep her on the hook during your cruise. You wanted to be free of your responsibilities.”

I extended the paper and a black pen toward him.

“Sign it, Daniel. Give up any legal claim to my daughters, drop all demands for the house, and walk away with your girlfriend and your stolen ring. Let’s see how long a luxury lifestyle lasts when you don't have a trust fund, a house, or a job.”
