Chapter 9 - The Three Little StarsThat evening, after the gallery gala concluded and the media trucks drove away, I drove back to the Wellesley house.

The front porch lights were glowing warmly against the evening dusk.

When I unlocked the front door, the sweet, milky scent of home rushed out to greet me. The nanny was just finishing up bedtime routines, and as I walked upstairs, three pairs of wide, bright, inquisitive eyes blinked back at me from their cribs.

Maya, Lily, and Chloe—named not after ghosts of the past, but after the bright spring blossoms that symbolize new life and unbreakable resilience.

They weren't tiny, fragile dolls anymore. They were growing fast, babbling happily, kicking their little legs, and filling every corner of our home with joyful noise.

I kicked off my high heels, dropped my designer coat over the armchair, and scooped all three of them up into my arms one by one, burying my face in their soft baby curls.

“Guess what, girls?” I whispered softly, carrying them over to the large nursery window to look out at the twinkling stars rising above our lawn. “Mommy had a very big day today.”

The babies cooed softly, their tiny hands reaching out to touch my face.

“We won,” I told them, a quiet tear of pure triumph slipping down my cheek, catching the porch light outside. “We won the whole thing.”
