Chapter 11 - The Phantom BalanceThe morning sun filtered through the sheer curtains of the penthouse suite, casting a warm golden glow across the marble floor. Clara stretched luxuriously, turning her head to find the spot beside her empty. The sheets were cold.

"Julian?" she called out, pulling a silk robe around her shoulders as she walked out toward the kitchen.
The silence of the apartment was suffocating. There was no sound of the espresso machine humming, no soft jazz playing from the smart speakers—just a rhythmic, urgent flashing coming from the smart-pad on the island counter.
Clara frowned, tapping the screen. A cold drop of dread pooled in her stomach as she read the decrypted system notification:
CRITICAL ALERT: PRIMARY ASSET TRANSFER DETECTED. Destination: Account #9940-STERLING-LEGACY Amount Transferred: 100% of Liquid Capital ($1,250,000,000.00) Status: COMPLETED.
"No..." Clara whispered, her fingers flying across the touch screen to check the corporate ledgers. Every single account—every patent, every subsidiary, every dollar recovered from the old regime—had been completely wiped clean.
Before she could process the devastation, the front door clicked open. Julian walked in carrying two takeaway cups of coffee, looking completely calm and relaxed.

"Morning, beautiful," Julian smiled, stepping forward to kiss her cheek. He froze when he saw the bloodless pallor of her face and the trembling screen in her hands. "Clara? What's wrong?"
Clara backed away from him, her breath hitching. "You left the bed... you knew the exact moment the transfer happened. Who are you, Julian?"
