Heavy steel security shutters slammed down over every window and door of the penthouse with a deafening metallic roar. The smart home panel flashed red, locking out all external signals and cellular frequencies.
"You're insane," Clara gasped, pounding her fists against the reinforced steel door. "Let me out!"
"I can't do that, Clara," Julian's voice echoed calmly from behind her as he typed rapidly on his master tablet. "The federal receivership doesn't trigger automatically unless the board officially files the motion. And right now, the only person with the cryptographic key to authorize that filing is sitting right here."

Clara grabbed a heavy crystal vase and hurled it straight at his head. Julian ducked with effortless grace, the vase shattering against the wall.
"Careful with the antiques, darling," Julian murmured. "Because by the time anyone realizes you're missing, I'll already be flying across international airspace."
