Chapter 14 - The Final BetrayalThe commander choked on his own blood, collapsing to the floor. Michael dropped the bloody shard of glass, gasping for air, his chest covered in gunshot wounds and sweat.

He looked down at Emily, his eyes wild and unhinged.
"I saved you..." Michael panted, leaning heavily against the doorframe, holding the commander's fallen gun. "I saved your life, Emily... now give me the flash drive! Give me the money! We can leave together!"
The computer monitor chimed loudly behind her: UPLOAD COMPLETE. DATA BROADCAST TO 1,500 GLOBAL MEDIA OUTLETS.
Emily stood up slowly, wiping the blood from her brow. "It's over, Michael. The world knows everything now. The syndicate, the corrupt politicians, the trafficking routes... and your real identity."
Michael looked at the screen, then looked at his own bloody hands. The madness in his eyes dissolved into pure, empty despair.
"You... you destroyed everything..." he stammered, raising the gun toward her with shaking hands. "If I can't have my empire... nobody gets out of here alive!"
THWIP! THWIP!
Two silenced shots echoed from behind Michael. Two neat holes appeared in his chest. He gasped, dropping his gun, falling backward onto the shattered glass floor, his eyes staring blankly at the ceiling as his life drained away forever.
Behind him stood Marcus, holding a smoking pistol, bleeding heavily from a gut wound.
"I promised I'd hold the stairwell," Marcus coughed out, collapsing against the doorframe, dropping to his knees.
