Chapter 19 - The Final GambitThe heavy steel chairs in the center of the boardroom bit coldly into my back as industrial-grade zip ties locked my wrists and ankles in place. Beside me, Marcus was bound just as tightly, his face bruised from the scuffle, glaring daggers at Prescott.

Across the room, Elena stood near the shattered window, her hands zip-tied behind her back, her head bowed in apparent defeat as two guards stood watch over her.
Senator Sterling walked slowly around the conference table, stopping directly in front of my chair, a glass of scotch in his hand.
"It’s almost poetic, isn't it, Lawson?" Sterling mused, taking a slow sip of his drink. "Your father built this empire on blood and ambition, and you thought you could cleanse it with a badge of morality. But the underworld doesn't change its kings. It just buries them."
"You won't get away with this," I said, my voice cold, steady, and devoid of fear. "The federal authorities already have Genevieve's ledger from the Detroit node. The entire network is exposed."
Sterling laughed—a rich, booming sound of absolute confidence. "My dear boy, do you really think a dead server node in an abandoned train station was the core of our operations? That was a honeypot designed specifically to lure you out into the open. The real ledger was destroyed years ago."
He turned away, raising his glass toward Prescott. "Set the demolition charges. Let's make sure nothing remains of Whispering Pines or our visiting guests."
Prescott nodded, pulling a detonator remote from his tactical vest and punching in a sequence of numbers. A low, rhythmic electronic countdown began to beep softly from the wall panels around the room.
Warning. Facility self-destruct sequence initiated. T-minus five minutes.
"Any last words, Mercer?" Prescott sneered, walking up to me with a sadistic grin.
I didn't answer. I didn't look scared. I looked straight past him, fixing my eyes on Elena standing across the room.
For a fraction of a second, our eyes locked.
There was no tearful apology in her gaze anymore. The despair had vanished, replaced by a sudden, razor-sharp spark of absolute, unyielding coldness.
Before Prescott could react, Elena’s body whipped around with impossible speed. Her bound hands flicked forward, a hidden ceramic blade sliding out of her sleeve lining into her palms. In one fluid, violent motion, she sliced through the zip ties binding her wrists, spun around, and drove the blade deep into the throat of the nearest guard.
The guard collapsed instantly before he could pull his trigger.
"What the—!" Prescott yelled, whipping his rifle around.
Before Prescott's barrel could level on her, Elena kicked the second guard’s weapon upward, snatching his carbine out of his hands mid-air, and opened fire with terrifying, lethal precision.
The two remaining guards flanking Sterling dropped instantly, riddled with bullets.
At the exact same second, I snapped my arms outward with explosive force, shattering the reinforced plastic zip ties on my wrists—which had never been fully locked tight—and kicked my chair backward, slamming my boots into the chest of the guard standing over me.

Marcus shattered his restraints using a tactical lock-pick hidden in his belt buckle, rolling across the floor and grabbing a dropped assault rifle in one fluid motion.
The boardroom erupted into absolute, violent war.
