CHAPTER 5 — The Challenge Nobody Expected

Three weeks later...
The dojo looked completely different.
Many students had transferred elsewhere.
Parents demanded refunds.
Sponsors quietly withdrew.
The regional federation suspended Viktor's coaching license pending a formal hearing.
For the first time in twenty years...
He had nowhere to teach.
Then something unexpected happened.
Viktor requested a meeting with Master Elena.
Not in a courtroom.
Not before reporters.
But inside the same dojo where everything had begun.
She accepted.
The remaining students gathered silently around the mat.
Viktor stepped forward wearing a plain white gi.
No black belt.
Only a white belt tied around his waist.
The room buzzed with confusion.
One student whispered,
"Why is he wearing a beginner's belt?"
Viktor looked at Elena.
"When I insulted you..."
"I believed the belt around my waist proved my worth."
He untied the white belt and placed it beside the mat.
"I spent years teaching people how to fight."
"But somewhere along the way..."
"I forgot why martial arts exist."
He lowered his head.
"I'm sorry."
Nobody moved.
Several students expected Elena to reject the apology.
Instead...
She asked one simple question.
"Are you apologizing because you lost your title..."
"...or because you finally understand your mistake?"
The silence lasted almost a full minute.
Finally Viktor answered.
"I don't know."
"But I'd like the chance to become someone who does."
For the first time...
Master Elena smiled.
May you like
A small one.
"You've just taken your first real step."
