CHAPTER 3 – The Billion-Dollar Secret Hidden in the Little Girl’s Necklace

Three months later...

The world believed the story was over.

Ethan Parker had lost everything.

His company had filed for bankruptcy.

His mansion had been seized.

The bride had vanished from the public eye.

And Charles Whitmore had become the legal guardian of little Lily and her mother.

But one rainy evening...

Charles asked Lily a question that changed everything.

"Lily... where did you get that necklace?"

The little girl smiled.

"My real daddy gave it to me before he disappeared."

Charles' heart nearly stopped.

The silver necklace wasn't ordinary.

Hidden inside the pendant was an ancient family crest.

A crest belonging to one of the wealthiest dynasties in Europe.

A family that had disappeared from public records more than twenty years earlier.

Charles immediately called a private investigator.

Within forty-eight hours...

The impossible became reality.

Lily's biological father wasn't a poor stranger...

He was Alexander Devereaux, a billionaire investor who had vanished after exposing a massive international money-laundering operation.

Official records claimed Alexander had died in a yacht explosion.

But Charles noticed something disturbing.

There had never been a body.

Someone had wanted the world to believe Alexander was dead.

Then another shocking discovery surfaced.

Alexander had secretly transferred nearly five billion dollars into a trust fund.

The beneficiary's name...

Lily.

Charles stared silently at the documents.

"If this is true..."

"...someone has been waiting six years for this child to disappear."

That same night...

A black SUV stopped outside Charles' estate.

Security cameras suddenly went offline.

Every light inside the mansion flickered.

The guards rushed outside.

Nothing.

No one.

Until Lily quietly pointed toward the front gate.

"Grandpa Charles..."

"The man with the black hat..."

"He's been watching me every night."

Charles turned.

No one was there.

Only a single black chess piece resting on the ground.

A king.

Taped underneath it was a handwritten note.

"The game begins now. Return the girl... or everyone protecting her dies."

Charles immediately ordered twenty-four-hour security.

The FBI was contacted.

Bank accounts were frozen.

Safe houses were prepared.

But it was already too late.

Because across the city...

Inside an abandoned warehouse...

A man watched Lily's live security feed on six different monitors.

He smiled.

"They finally found the necklace."

One of his men asked quietly,

"Boss... should we eliminate the old man first?"

The mysterious figure slowly removed his gloves.

A large burn scar covered his right hand.

He answered without looking away from the screen.

"No."

"Charles is useful."

"I only want the girl."

Then...

He picked up an old family photograph.

It showed Alexander Devereaux...

Standing beside him.

They looked almost identical.

The man whispered with a cold smile...

"Because Lily isn't just Alexander's daughter..."

"...she's the only heir who can unlock the Devereaux Fortune."

And just as thunder shook the night...

Lily woke from a nightmare.

She ran into Charles' room, terrified.

"They found me..."

Charles held her tightly.

"Who found you?"

Lily's tiny voice trembled.

"The man Daddy was hiding from..."

Outside the mansion...

A red laser sight slowly appeared on Charles' bedroom window.

Someone had already pulled the trigger.
