Chapter 6 - The Trap Closes"Don't move," a voice echoed sharply from the doorway.

Michael froze mid-stride.
Detective Miller stepped into the room, his service weapon drawn and pointed squarely at Michael’s chest. Behind him stood three armed officers, their expressions grim and resolute.
For a fraction of a second, confusion flickered across Michael’s face. Then, his eyes darted toward me, narrowing with sudden realization.
"You called them," Michael hissed, his voice dropping an octave.
I backed away, wiping the tears from my face, though my hands wouldn't stop shaking. "Did you really think I wouldn't notice?" I spat back, a sudden surge of adrenaline replacing my terror. "You left your phone on the kitchen counter this morning, Michael. I saw the text messages between you and Kara. You didn't just coach her—you manipulated her into doing your dirty work from day one."
Detective Miller kept his gun steady. "Michael Davis, put your hands behind your back. You're under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and financial fraud."
Michael didn't panic. In fact, a slow, dark smile crept onto his lips. He slowly raised his hands, pretending to surrender, but his eyes never left mine.
"You're smart, Emily," Michael said softly, taking a step backward toward the window. "I'll give you that. But you think a pair of cuffs is going to stop what's already in motion?"
Before the officers could lunge forward, Michael reached behind his back, smashed his elbow through the reinforced glass of the ICU window, and dove outward into the rainy night air.

"Stop him!" I screamed.
Officers rushed to the window, but it was too late. We were on the fourth floor, and below us lay only the dark, winding asphalt of the hospital parking lot—and a idling getaway car that had just screeched to a halt by the emergency exit.
