Chapter 7 - The Chase Through the StormThe hospital erupted into chaos. Alarms blared, red emergency lights flashed through the corridors, and security guards sprinted toward the exits.

Detective Miller grabbed my arm, his face taut with urgency. "Stay here, Mrs. Davis. We have units locking down the perimeter."

"No," I said, shaking off his grip with a fierce determination that surprised even myself. "He killed my family. He tried to finish off my father. I am not staying behind."

Without waiting for his permission, I bolted down the stairwell, ignoring the burn in my muscles and the rain soaking through my clothes as I burst out into the hospital parking lot.

The night was a swirling vortex of blue and red police lights reflecting off puddles of rainwater. In the distance, a black sedan was tearing out of the parking structure, its tires screeching against the wet pavement.

Detective Miller skidded to a halt beside an unmarked police cruiser, throwing open the passenger door. "Get in! Hold on tight!"

The chase was cinematic and terrifying. The cruiser surged forward, engine roaring as we blew past traffic lights and cut through dark alleyways. Up ahead, Michael’s black sedan swerved wildly, desperate to lose us in the labyrinth of the city's old industrial district.

The rain hammered against our windshield like buckshot. Through the blurring wipers, I watched the taillights of Michael’s car brake sharply ahead.

He had taken a dead-end road leading directly to the abandoned shipping docks by the river.

Our cruiser slammed to a halt, blocking the narrow exit. Detective Miller and two backup officers spilled out of the cars, their weapons drawn, shouting commands into the roaring wind.

"Michael Davis! Step out of the vehicle with your hands where we can see them!" Miller's voice boomed over the loudspeaker.

For a moment, the sedan sat silent in the glare of our headlights. Then, the driver's side door slowly creaked open.
