CHAPTER 6 — The Mastermind Steps Out of the Shadows

Red emergency lights flickered back to life.

The tunnel shook with distant explosions.

Dust drifted from the ceiling.

Vincent and Elena rushed deeper into the hidden passage until they reached an old steel security door.

Locked.

Behind them...

Footsteps echoed.

Slow.

Confident.

Not running.

Walking.

Someone wasn't hunting them.

Someone knew exactly where they were.

Vincent raised his pistol.

The footsteps stopped.

A familiar voice spoke through the darkness.

"You always taught me never to rush a victory."

Tony.

His personal bodyguard.

For twenty-seven years, Tony had stood beside Vincent during wars, negotiations, and assassination attempts.

He had taken bullets for him.

Saved his life more than once.

Vincent tightened his grip on the gun.

"You too?"

Tony sighed.

"I never wanted it to end this way."

The steel door slowly opened from the other side.

Tony stepped into the dim red light.

He wasn't pointing a weapon.

Instead...

He was carrying an old leather briefcase.

"I've protected you for twenty-seven years."

"But tonight..."

"I'm here to protect the truth."

Before Vincent could react, another figure appeared behind Tony.

Isabella.

Vincent's wife.

She looked exhausted.

Her eyes were swollen from crying.

She wasn't armed.

She wasn't hiding.

She simply walked toward Vincent until only a few feet separated them.

"I never wanted Marcus to hate you," she whispered.

"I wanted to save him."

Vincent's voice trembled with anger.

"By lying to both of us?"

She nodded through tears.

"I had no choice."

"You always believed your greatest enemy was the Rossi family."

"It wasn't."

Tony slowly placed the leather briefcase on the floor.

Inside were hundreds of classified documents, photographs, surveillance reports, and handwritten journals.

One name appeared over and over again.

Giovanni Moretti.

Vincent's face turned pale.

Impossible.

Giovanni Moretti had supposedly died twenty-eight years ago during the bloodiest mafia war in the city's history.

Tony looked Vincent straight in the eyes.

"He never died."

"He disappeared."

"He built a new organization in secret."

"For nearly thirty years..."

"He infiltrated your business."

"Your police contacts."

"Your politicians."

"Even your family."

Isabella wiped away another tear.

"He was the one who murdered Elena's parents."

"He was the one who convinced Marcus that you abandoned him."

"He was the one who ordered every betrayal."

Vincent whispered,

"Where is he now?"

No one answered.

Instead...

A slow clap echoed from the darkness beyond the tunnel.

One...

Two...

Three...

An elderly man stepped into the light wearing an elegant black suit.

His silver hair was perfectly combed.

His smile was calm.

Almost grandfatherly.

Vincent's hands began to shake.

"Giovanni..."

The old man smiled warmly.

"Good evening, Vincent."

"I've waited thirty years for this reunion."

He looked toward Marcus, who silently emerged behind him with several armed men.

Then Giovanni spoke the words that chilled everyone in the tunnel.

"You've all been fighting the wrong war."

"Because none of you have realized..."

"...this family has been working for me from the very beginning."

The tunnel fell into complete silence.

Even Marcus looked stunned.

Because Giovanni's eyes were no longer on Vincent...

They were locked on Elena.

And he smiled as if greeting someone he had known all her life.

May you like

"My dear granddaughter..."

"It's time for you to come home."
