Chapter 6 - The Final Reckoning (The Twist)

The silence in the room was suffocating.
"You knew," I whispered, tears of anger and shock burning my eyes. "You knew my mother owned the land. You didn't help me out of the goodness of your heart. You used me to get the perfect legal claim to destroy Richard."
"I told you from the very beginning, Elena," Alessio said, his voice deadly calm as he walked into the room. "I am a businessman. I do not do charity."
"My father threatened to kill my mother if I didn't bring him these deeds," I yelled, my voice breaking. "He said Vivien poisoned her medication! She’s going to die because of your game!"
Alessio didn't look panicked. He slowly set his whiskey glass on the desk.
"Your mother is currently in a highly secured, private military medical facility in Bern, Switzerland, protected by twenty of my best men," Alessio said quietly. "The clinic your father thinks he controls? I bought it three weeks ago. The medical supply chain? It’s mine. Your mother is completely safe, Elena. Richard has no power over her."
I stared at him, the wind knocked out of my sails. "You... you protected her?"
"Of course I did," Alessio murmured, stepping close enough to wrap his hands around my waist, pulling my trembling body against his hard chest. "Did you really think I would let anyone touch the mother of my future wife?"
"But the marriage... it was just a contract," I whispered, looking up into his dark, intense eyes.
"The contract was for the lawyers," Alessio said, his voice softening into something raw and deeply passionate. "I fell in love with the girl who bled for her mother in my elevator. I was never going to let you go, Elena."
The warmth of his lips met mine in a kiss that was both possessive and fiercely protective. For the first time in my life, I felt completely safe.
"Now," Alessio whispered against my lips, a dangerous spark in his eyes. "Let’s go end this."
The Grand FinaleThe next morning, the police arrived at the Bennett estate.
But they weren’t there to protect Richard. They were there with a federal warrant.
Thanks to the documents Alessio provided, the authorities had full proof of Richard’s forgery, tax evasion, and—most shockingly—the attempted murder of Eleanor Bennett via slow-acting poison, coordinated by Vivien Bennett.
I stood by Alessio’s side as the officers dragged a screaming Vivien and a pale, trembling Richard out of their mansion in handcuffs.
"Elena! Please!" Richard screamed, looking at me with bloodshot eyes. "I’m your father! You can't do this to me!"
"You said it yourself, Richard," I said, my voice echoing across the courtyard. "You don't know this young woman."
Celeste stood on the steps, weeping as the bank associates began placing foreclosure signs on the lawn. She had nothing left. The perfect family was gone, reduced to ash.
As the police cars drove away, Alessio wrapped his arm around my shoulder, pulling me close.
"The Bellagio Grand is legally yours now, Elena," he murmured. "Your mother is flying home tomorrow. She is fully recovered."
I looked up at the man who had started as my terrifying captor and ended up as my savior.
"What do we do now?" I asked.

Alessio smiled, a genuine, beautiful smile that belonged only to me.
"Now, my love," he said, "we run this city together."
