Chapter 5 - The Docks of Damnation

The midnight rain had turned into a torrential downpour, washing over the industrial shipping docks at the edge of the city. Rusting shipping containers towered like giant metal graves under the flickering yellow floodlights.
Inside Warehouse 4, Leo, Carmen’s twelve-year-old son, was tied to a heavy iron chair. His face was bruised, his lips chapped, hanging his head in utter exhaustion. Standing over him was Don Emilio Marcone, the ruthless patriarch of the Marcone syndicate, surrounded by twenty heavily armed soldiers.
"Time's up," Emilio said, checking his gold Rolex. He looked down at the video camera setup pointing directly at Leo. "Turn on the broadcast. Let’s show the city what happens when you steal from the Marcones, and let Vincent watch his precious maid’s family break into pieces."
A henchman stepped toward the heavy machinery in the corner—an industrial metal shredder used for destroying scrap steel. The engine roared to life with a deafening, mechanical shriek that shook the concrete floor.
"Please..." Leo sobbed, his voice barely audible over the machine. "Please, don't..."
"Don't worry, boy," Emilio smiled cruelly. "It’ll be over fast. Your mother should have delivered the master codes faster."
Suddenly, the heavy steel bay doors of the warehouse didn't just open—they were completely obliterated.
A massive, armored black SUV smashed through the metal doors at ninety miles an hour, spinning violently out of control as it plowed through three Marcone guards, crushing them instantly against the shipping crates.
The vehicle slammed into a stack of pallets and came to a halt, its engine smoking, its headlights piercing through the dark warehouse.
"Open fire!" Emilio screamed, diving behind a metal crate.
Twenty automatic rifles unleashed a torrent of lead onto the vehicle. The windows shattered, the metal body was turned into Swiss cheese. For two full minutes, the warehouse was nothing but deafening noise and flying sparks.
When the firing finally stopped, the silence returned, punctuated only by the heavy panting of the gunmen and the roaring of the shredder.
The driver’s side door of the SUV slowly fell off its hinges, crashing onto the floor.
Vincent Torino stepped out.
He wasn't wearing his suit anymore. He wore black tactical body armor, completely soaked in blood—some his own, mostly others. He held a massive, belt-fed light machine gun in his right hand, and a detonator in his left.
"Marcone!" Vincent’s voice boomed over the roar of the machinery. "You wanted my empire? Come and take it!"
Before anyone could shoot, Vincent pressed the detonator.
The entire roof of the warehouse exploded. Vincent had pre-planted C4 on the exterior supports using his remaining loyal soldiers who had rallied at the docks. Tons of metal structure and corrugated iron came crashing down, dividing the Marcone forces in half and crushing several gunmen under the debris.
Chaos erupted. Vincent advanced through the smoke like an unstoppable juggernaut, his machine gun roaring, cutting through the remaining guards with terrifying, lethal precision. He didn't take cover. He walked forward, absorbing the impact of stray bullets against his armor, his eyes locked onto Emilio Marcone.
Emilio, panicked and desperate, ran toward Leo, pulling a silver revolver from his pocket. He grabbed Leo by the hair, pulling his head back, placing the barrel against the boy’s temple.
"Stop! Stop or I blow his brains out!" Emilio shrieked, his hands shaking violently as Vincent stepped through the smoke, his machine gun now empty, dropping it to the floor with a heavy thud.
Vincent stood ten feet away. His body armor was shredded, a bullet wound in his leg making him limp slightly, but his gaze was death itself.
"You lose, Emilio," Vincent said softly.
"I have the boy!" Emilio yelled hysterically. "I still win! You care about these peasants now, Torino? The great Mafia Boss turned into a savior? Drop your weapons or the boy dies right now!"

Vincent looked at Leo, then slowly reached behind his back.
HOOK FOR NEXT CHAPTER: Vincent doesn't pull out a gun. Instead, he pulls out a phone and shows Emilio a live stream. The camera is inside Emilio's own private mansion, where Carmen and Isabella are standing next to Emilio's bound and gagged grandchildren. 'Your move, Emilio,' Vincent whispers. 'Let's see who loves their family more.'
