Chapter 10 - THE FINAL CHECKMATEThe private aviation tarmac at Teterboro Airport was whipped by freezing winds and swirling snow.

A sleek Gulfstream G650 sat on the runway, its turbine engines screaming, ready for takeoff. At the foot of the boarding stairs stood Arthur Vance, clutching a titanium briefcase against his chest like a shield, surrounded by four private mercenaries with automatic rifles.

Suddenly, three black armored SUVs tore across the tarmac, cutting off the jet's path and slamming to a halt in a shower of snow and ice.

Doors flew open. Armed guards poured out, taking tactical positions. But leading the charge wasn't just security—it was Kendrick Ashford, flanked by Titan and Willa.

"Arthur Vance!" Kendrick's voice boomed over the howling wind, carrying the weight of absolute authority.

Arthur turned pale as death, dropping his briefcase in sheer terror. He grabbed a pistol from one of the mercenaries, pressing the barrel against the head of the trembling pilot who had stepped out to help him.

"Stay back, Ashford!" Arthur shrieked, his voice cracking with hysteria. "One step closer and I put a bullet in this man's brain, and then I fly this bird straight to the FBI headquarters in Washington!"

The guards hesitated, lowering their weapons slightly.

Arthur grinned maniacally. "You lose, Kendrick! The empire is mine—"

Crack.

A single gunshot rang out across the tarmac.

Arthur froze. He looked down in utter disbelief at his own hand. The gun slipped from his fingers and clattered onto the frozen asphalt, blood blooming rapidly across his right palm.

Arthur spun around, eyes wide with horror, looking toward the source of the shot.

Standing twenty feet away, holding a Glock 19 with both hands, her posture steady, her breathing calm, and her eyes as cold as winter ice, was Willa.

"You missed the vital organs, Arthur," Willa called out, her voice cutting cleanly through the roaring wind. "Next time, I won't aim for the hand."

Before Arthur could scream, Titan bounded forward like a greyhound, leaping past the paralyzed mercenaries and pinning Arthur face-first into the freezing snow, his massive jaws snapping inches from the lawyer's ear.

Kendrick walked slowly across the tarmac, stepping over the dropped briefcase. He picked it up, dusted off the snow, and looked down at Arthur, who was sobbing hysterically beneath the weight of the mastiff.

"You wanted a seat at the table, Arthur," Kendrick said softly. "Consider this your permanent retirement."

EPILOGUE: THE QUEEN OF THE ASHESThree months later.

The glittering ballroom of the Ashford Tower was packed once more, but this time, there were no lines of submission, no frightened debutantes, and no trembling waitresses.

It was a coronation.

At the center of the grand hall stood Willa, wearing a stunning, custom-tailored white silk gown embroidered with silver thread. Around her neck hung the Ashford dynasty heirloom—a heavy diamond necklace that symbolized absolute power across the East Coast underworld.

Standing beside her was Kendrick Ashford, his expression softer than anyone had ever seen it, holding little Penny’s hand, while Titan lay regally at their feet like a guardian sphinx.

As the applause of hundreds of syndicate capos, international allies, and powerful elites thundered through the hall, Kendrick leaned down, his lips brushing Willa’s ear.

"Still want to go back to serving tables?" he whispered with a warm, wicked smile.

Willa smiled back, her gray eyes sparkling with absolute confidence as she looked out over an empire that now answered to her.

"Not a chance, Mr. Ashford," she whispered. "I prefer running the room."
